Probably the post that will tank my CCP but hopefully not.
Firstly I'd like to point out I'm not attacking peoples faith. In my opinion, our belief in a god or gods and higher powers stems from our innate instinct of a sense of wonder. For as long as humans have roamed the world we've wondered why things occurred and for a long time had no answers, so we assigned all the weird stuff to a god or gods. All ancient civilizations had this.
However once it is used to control masses it becomes evil, dangerous and used by people who hunger power for their own ends. Yes, organised religion has shaped our traditions and cultures, it helped build the family unit and stability. It helped communities unite.
But in today's world, organised religion has no place. I find it absurd that millions of people gather to watch one man on a balcony talk because his cult has convinced them he speaks for a god, god's chosen representative on Earth (who's elected but never mind...). A world where there is an almost annual human cattle crush to walk in circles around a black stone, because a holy book told them they must. A world where there are thousands of religions, with thousands more sub branches. It is all a form of power, that uses peoples faith to do unspeakable things.
This world would be a far better place, in my opinion, if we weren't all fighting each other thousands of years after some events may or may not have occurred because a magic man in the sky said we should. And the people who head these organisations in my eyes are no better than Hitler, Stalin or any other brutal leader.
