To be fair, Voat is by no means perfect. They've had issues with child porn and other things are here that are contrary to the Church's teaching.

While I definitely support getting behind /v/catholicism I think abandoning /r/Catholicism just because it is in enemy territory would be the same as abandoning a mission that is in enemy territory in real life. Just because the environment is hostile does not mean there is no work to be done there.

Eh, I think the good /r/Catholicism offers Catholics and non-Catholics seeking to learn about the faith outweighs the negatives of being hosted on reddit.

This isn't completely fair. Sure they support organizations that undermine Catholic teaching, but the /r/catholicism community is taking hearts for the blessed virgin from the least likely place. 18000 readers who are exposed to Catholicism is a great number.

Just came over, moving the CatholicGamers and CatholicVideos subforums to over here.

Hopefully this will take off. I'm trying to stay off reddit, that place is so toxic

Former Redditor from /r/Catholicism. I left Reddit because it is predominately liberal even when it comes to Catholicism and Prolife. I found I got up votes for my posts but Democrat Catholics were completely appalled and let me know in the comments section. I am by no means close to being a 'great' Catholic but I do stand up for long held tradition. That position is now slandered as bigoted, non-inclusive, phobic, hurtful. Jesus said it, they will hate you because of me.
I believe the OP is correct to stay there. I just don't have the will to apply medicine to the dead.

Hello,
I am a gay person who was also raised Catholic and confirmed at 18. I have waited to post this because I don't want to attract any negative attention against myself, as it was posted several days ago. I do, however, feel compelled to tell you of my opinion, simply because I am a practicing member of the church who has never left it or questioned it in their entire life.
I have engaged in sexual relations with members of the same sex, as called to be an "abomination" in the Bible and by many who focus their beliefs solely upon the Bible. I agree that same-sex intercourse is biologically not meant to be undertaken, and even because of this that I have remained faithful even after accepting that I was going against what the church says. Humans and dolphins are the only animals known to have sex for pleasure. I find it highly unlikely that dolphins, by virtue of their species, will end up in Hell because they are not using their reproductive organs "correctly." Thus, I do not think that any human will go to Hell or should face judgement if they have sex for pleasure, because, even if "lust" is a sin, when two people love each other they have sex as the greatest expression of their trust in one another. On the other hand, people who abuse this and simply have sex for the pleasure of it are the ones who I believe to be sinners, because they lust for someone not in love, but in desire.
I also would like to remind you, that it is not only a sin to lay with another of the same sex, but it is also a sin to lay with another person if they are not married. Unless someone is following the route of joining the priesthood, I highly doubt that any regular person, who is also Catholic, has not had sex before they were married. I think everyone of the older cousins in my entire family, which is large and thoroughly Catholic, has had premarital sex. I highly doubt that my cousins, who are some of the kindest, most loving people I know, are going to Hell because of this. Thus, I think that sex outside of marriage undertaken in love is also alright in the eyes of God, as he only punishes those who give into their lusts with no penitence, as aforementioned in the paragraph above.
This leads me to my final point on same-sex relations, that being marriage. In older times, marriage was as a man taking ownership of a woman, with the Bible even saying how many wives a man could take. Even in as late as the 1970s, there were still women who were afraid to voice their opinions to their husbands, as some of the men would "show a woman their place" (meaning, they would beat them or something of the sort). Over time, this has developed into a bond established by love between two people, as today we celebrate marriage as an institution founded on love and not on the ownership of women by men. It is this change in the concept of marriage that makes me believe that two people of the same sex should have the right to marry, as in older times there was no concept of two men loving each other in a spousal way simply due to the nature of "domination over another man" that was associated with homosexuality as far back as Roman times.
Therefore, I believe that God will accept two moral, faithful men who love each other express this love through intercourse and marriage, no matter what the Bible says, because in the end, Jesus calls for us to love one another to no end. To deny this expression, in my eyes, is a grave error and sin, and no matter how unpopular my opinion may be, I will always believe it.
I'm sorry if this was too long or incoherent, I just wanted to make my case clear. Thanks for taking the time to read it, if you did.
