Haven't decided yet, I was thinking somewhere around Mount Buffalo in Victoria.

BC Cariboo/Chilcotin country near the Coast Mountains, Pacific Rim Park (Green Point is one of the most beautiful car-accessible sites you'll see), maybe a trip into the Rockies.

Can't do anything crazy this year, these will have to do.

It's not a big goal. I just want to camp for a week in Death Valley this year.

I drove into dvnp on xmas and it was was gorgeous. There is way to much to see and experience in one day. So, one week should be enough. I might be able to cut it down to 4 days but it depends on how busy the park is.

I saw jet outboards in the Ozarks area. Those things can move pretty good. Which mountain range are you by? 400km is a long trip!

Nice, that's an area I want to explore too. Only a few hours away from me.

There are some good resources out there. Consider if you like the camping part more or the hiking part more--- it really changes how you do things and what you buy/use.

I'm planning on getting more big mountain winter experience.

Unfortunately - I have a newborn. I'm not sure what to do with that.

For now - just doing back-yard tenting with the kid (different kid...). A bit of fire, a bit of out-door cooking, some smores.

Any advice on doing "real" camping? How does camping work with babies?

Bring them with you? I have seen folks ski and hike with young children in carriers. I'm sure there are resources out there to help understand the logistics and gear that works best.

Just the other day I saw rentals for a baby carrier/sled that you could tow behind you on touring skis. Seemed neat.
