The ACC cannot be happy about this either. they were hoping for the right to scrap the divisions altogether and just match the 2 teams with the best records in the title game. That would also make it easier to bring ND into the conference completely, because there would be no need to add team #16.

Indeed. The ACC actually had a well planned long term vision based on a pod system, and were the first conference to take concrete steps to position themselves for the next round of realignment.

I doubt Houston is on the list of consideration. no new markets, and they aren't as desperate for new teams like they were when they added TCU. (not a dig at TCU's program by any means. just noting that TCU did not expand the market footprint at all)
the most logical teams for the Big 12 to add in my opinion are Memphis and Cincinnati. both open up fertile recruiting grounds. both bridge the geographic gap to WV. both add new markets in football crazy states. Both also bring in basketball value (which helps both at tournament time, and if they eventually get a Big 12 network - basketball programming helps fill programming needs all week long)
That being said...I would prefer Louisiana Tech and Memphis to be added. for... reasons. LOL

God, I don't even know any more. The talk initially was UCF and Cincinatti, but they are obvious gutter picks now. I think the league should wait as long as possible to strike when the conferences are ripe and unbalanced.
