A mother is conceived when a baby is, birth is just the second stage of labor.
Many people (if not most) consider the moment of birth the moment a mother is also born. This is true to an extent, but it is not the full story.
Mothering, and caring for a baby begins long before birth as good mothers sacrifice vices, stresses, and pleasures for the sake of the offspring within her.
Not all mothers are good mothers. Some even go so far as to say giving birth does not make one mother - I disagree with that point. Some mothers are horrible, some are just not interested in being mothers, some are incapable of being effective mothers. Some mothers kill their offspring and some give them away, but they are still mothers.
Angel Mothers (or Angel Mum/Mom or Mum/Mom of an Angel Baby) is a term used in cases of stillbirth or miscarriage or child death. Just because their babies are not breathing does not make these women less of a mother.
Being a good mother does not come automatically from giving birth.
Some mothers adopt their children. Some foster. Some use surrogates. Some are just mother figures for those without good mothers. Some children have to mother themselves.
Some people have good mothers, some people have bad mothers, some people have dead mothers (good or bad), some people aren't related to their mothers and some don't know their mothers, and in this clown world soon some people may not have mothers at all.
Celebrate good mothers, past, present and future. Ignore the bad ones.
Happy mother's day.
