I don't think there should be a voating system, as that just opens all sorts of avenues for exploitation, both by them and the rest of us.

What I do think there should be is a clear code of conduct for the Mods, enforced by the Admins, with a clear process in place for Users to log grievances against Mods who are believed to have broken that code.

I like this idea a lot more. Good thought.

Don't you think that might discourage user created subverses?

As this subverse clearly shows users who dislike the rules or mods of a subverse are free to create their own on the same topic. Sorry, but I don't think someone who created a subverse and put the work into developing it should be removable by vote.

Voating systems in an anonymous forum are always going to be abused. I don't think it's a good idea, it's going to lead to a lot of hostile takeovers.

Also I don't think there's any need for a mechanism to dispose of mods. There are no default subverses, and it's very easy to inform a large portion of users without mods being able to prevent it. Leaving a sub behind as a community for a new one is acutally realistic, just like /r/marijuana migrated to /r/trees because of mod issues back in the golden days of reddit

I think a mod voating system would be gamed by any group interested enough to do so.

If you have to have something, do it by participation points. Have 10k upvoats in /v/furrygore? Maybe you should have more sway than the 10k people that joined yesterday.

The only thing I can think of is that elections can be rigged. Seems like a good idea to a degree but would need a lot of guardrails or else people would be able to easily take over other subverses.

Potentially for major subverses, if you don't like the mods on smaller subs it isn't difficult to create your own and compete with it.

Yes!
