It certainly played a part in this but not always toward his benefit. Name recognition also means people had already formed their opinions of him prior to the race. Because of his past association in business, TV shows and his first presidential election bid the public at large decided what kind of presidential candidate he would be. I think his greatest asset was his sincerity and down to earth speaking at his many rallies that changed people's opinions of him. He himself is his greatest asset because he used everything he is to overcome what amounted to nearly impossible odds against him to win the highest office. His name recognition is now his political brand just as it was his business brand. I believe he will be the most memorable president because of this.
