Moderators are cleaners. They are not governors. They are not important. Don't give moderators prestigious titles and don't empower them with a charter. No one needs a charter and moderator politics when things can be simple and straightforward as they are. No one needs the interference of @System.

Moderators need to stop making meta posts and learn to keep quiet and continue their low-key unimportant roles and stop trying to complicate things. I believe the phrase used is "calm your tits".

Thanks for the advice GOT. I agree with much of your sentiment. I feel that moderators should be servant leaders - their role is to put the needs of the community ahead of their own. My desire is not to empower them, per se, rather to restrict and check that power by taking it from the hands of an individual and putting it in the hands of a collective. The charter is there for purposes of accountability.

I know that many people disagree on whether core subs should be @System controlled, but I feel this is the ultimate removal of power from the sub owner, and vestment in those who represent the sub.

I have no intention of making further meta posts, besides the two just made. I have made these for the benefit of the community - many of whom have been asking what is going on, what the future of the sub is, and so forth. We want this administrative change to be over with as soon as possible, such that we can get back to our core competencies.

Transferring the sub to @system is the only thing we all agree on.

We don't want bullshit lawyering, and we want common sense to rule. This is fucking ridiculous.

I say let them. Let them play politics and have all this bureaucracy. There's always /v/askgoat for those of us who want a more relaxed environment to hang out in.

For once I agree with you.

This is way too complicated and bureaucratic.

I was just aiming for precise and above board.

This is too precise. Ultimately, we have to trust you and the mods to do the right thing. People never wanted a bureaucracy, they wanted clarity and transparency, and frankly this addresses neither.

You can be very precise and still completely wrong.

first!

edit: this constition is great and all, but can you just give a simple TLDR as to what askvoat is going to become? all this politics really sucks the fun out of the room.

Sure! In short, there will no longer be a top-down structure. Decisions concerning AskVoat will be made democratically by the moderators, who are instructed (or, more so, picked) to listen to the community. Decisions on which the moderators can't agree will be put to the community. The community themselves get to decide what content is appropriate, and what isn't - moderators will no longer be policemen.

I'm following this up with another post in a few minutes, where I will announce some new moderators joining the team. That will explain a bit more and be less legalese.

democratically

by the moderators

lol Do you know what democracy even is? You're saying democratically, but offering managed democracy.

Only one thing matters. Who is a moderator and who isn't. This 'constitution' doesn't mean a damn thing.

Sure!

The sub is here so people can ask and answer questions. The mods will make decisions collectively (no one person in charge).

Wait. Is this mighty contract NOT what Voat wanted from all moderators ever? Woah.

Wow, this entire thing has gotten absurd. A fucking constitution? "Governing Council"?

A bunch of adults need a 740 word document to tell them to not be jackasses, amazing.

After what this sub has just been through? Yes. Yes, they do.

Our goal is to guarantee that something like that can never happen again.

I find it funny you say that considering you were one of the people making the last set of rules overly complicated.

No, no they don't. Words don't mean shit. Rules don't mean shit. Moderator behavior is all that matters.

This is a ridiculous shitshow and accomplishes nothing.

Overly complex bureaucratic mess, exactly what I would expect from you. This is on the same level as @she's over done shitty rules. My time "working" with Reow was painful and cringe worthy, I'm talking 2 hour long conversations over sentence structure and the inability to grasp simple obvious concepts or simply being pedantic. I almost bailed on my plan he was so annoying, we only kept him around because he could script a bot and I couldn't convince @she it wasn't important enough to keep him. Good luck

What bot did he script?

None yet, the idea was to start working on a rough form of automoderator.
