I agree Voat can be too small at times, but I'm not sure I really want it to get bigger. Definitely not if the influx is going to be primarily sensitive little kids who can't handle an argument or different opinions.

As for constructive suggestions, non-invasive methods of generating profits that are then channeled into marketing directed towards the type of users we'd like to see here on this page is my first guess.

To be fair, Voat is also sensitive and can't handle different opinions. Every time I post anything that isn't 100% in line with right-winged orthodox, I end up getting downvoated and called sophomoric names. It didn't use to be this way. For a few months last year we had a gentlemen's agreement not to use the downvoat as a disagree button.

I completely agree with you. I love voat but it looks like the site is growing into a 12 year olds first year on /b/ more than a legitimate alternative to reddit.

Sure I do see it from time to time, and even experience it myself. But I would still say that it is my impression that the percentage of people who are like that is lower here than on for example reddit.

In addition to getting more users on Voat, I think another important thing is getting the existing users to be more active in posting and commenting. Personally I would love to a better Android Voat app as most of the time I surf this site it is in the evening when I just want to relax, and in many cases that's while I'm laying in the bed I'm in that mood. And there I end up surfing Reddit because the app for Reddit is just flat out better than anything I've found for Voat.

But I really wish it was the other way around, for every day passing by, I get more and more tired of reading the constantly dropping quality in comments on that site, and how much the whole Sanders is just spamming God damn everything.

It's higher quality because it's smaller. It does feel small at times when I want some mindless browsing but I like it small here. I recognize people here. I never did on Reddit and so this feels like a community rather than just another website to look at stuff like reddit.

Let it grow organically.

I like it the way it is. If I get bored of whats on voat, I find something to submit that I would like to see here

To get bigger it would need to be less crazy. Fewer conspiracy theories. Less racism. Less dependance on internet inside jokes (e.g. whining about SJWs - normal people don't even know what that acronym means, let alone agree with Voat's perspective on them). Being either far right or far left doesn't really help for getting a big userbase.

I've blocked all the subs you're alluding to and am a happier voat camper for it. Well.. I admit I haven't blocked SJWhate cuz I think it's funny sometimes.

I suspect you're desensitized (so am I). You see tons of anti-semitism and other bigotry even in askVoat, I saw it yesterday in /v/sports, it's all over /v/news and /v/politics.

you just laid out the business model for reddit

Not really. Reddit has a lot of that stuff too. Like I said elsewhere in this thread, whining about SJWs and the evil "PC culture" is reddit's favorite thing.

Everyone should be on two social networks. Then they should link good content between them. In a way we need to send users abroad to get more users back. The biggest sites on the net are the ones that don't obsess about session length. May I suggest 8ch and quitter. Share good content from there here and share good content here there.

Most browsers support zooming, if you hold CTRL and press the + button, the site will appear larger.

The most important thing would be to have more broad scope of active subverses, especially the non-political ones.

For example, one of my big hobbies are RPGs. We have v/RPG, v/dnd, v/gamebooks, v/dnd5e and many others, but most of them move awfully slow in submissions, awfully slow in comments and yet don't reach the depth and width of specialised topics that Reddit or specialized classical web forums like TheRPGSite or GiantITP achieve. Duplicating content to Voat feels more like charity to bring life to those areas than like a worthwile endeavour in and of itself.

I think the cross posting could help

it really isn't. it's an opposite extreme in it's current state. i feel that there's a different between free speech and letting any asshole in the door and voat doesn't recognize that in the same way reddit doesn't.
