Basic Training (Army doesn't have Boot Camp) is a pretty controlled atmosphere, there isn't a whole lot to see. You aren't allowed to leave campus, are monitored nearly 100% of the time, and the community is designed to have snitches all around (since everyone gets punished for the actions of a single soldier).
Not a lot of weird things happen. The guy who controls the toilet paper supply has all the power. I would make exchanges or buy TP with my meager income, and could get anything I wanted. Those who snuck in porn, tobacco, caffeine, or any other banned substance didn't necessarily plan for the future too well. So I was able to get any of that stuff when I wanted it, without having to store it and getting caught. Toilet paper is powerful.
There were no doors on the stalls. I thought that was weird and took some getting used to. I take that back, there was one stall with a door. We called it the Masturbation Station. Looking back, it was probably designed for that purpose.
We had a guy that was from Africa and couldn't speak English. When we were doing chemical warfare training, he was entertaining. You go into a brick room with your gas mask and suit on. The drill sergeant will drop tabs of CS onto a burner and it would turn into a gas. 15 - 30 people would be escorted into the room, and you were forced to take off your mask and recite your name, rank, birth city, social security number, and your platoons motto. It was really just to make you breathe in the gas. It was horrible, it would choke you up, burn your eyes, and cause every fluid to run out of your head.
This guy from Africa flipped the fuck out and tried to attack the drill sergeant. He got punched right in the chest, fell to the ground, the sergeant grabbed him by the collar, drug him across the snot, vomit, and tear covered floor, and literally threw him out the door like a cartoon.
That was hilarious, mainly because this African guy was close to 7 foot tall. After it was all said and done, he failed the exercise and had to do it again. Fun times.
