Because science has a systematic method of inquiry, the results are meant to be peer reviewed to ensure validity.

When you have those two ingredients you get good information AND you can trust it.

When either breaks down you get religion and 'social science'.

Wouldn't you think that science would be one of the more valuable assets to keep secret. We still do keep parts secret. Computers were strictly military until they made better computers. That can be said for pretty much all tech we have today. It's kind of interesting to ponder about. What would the world be like if science wasn't shared between countries openly. World War 2 would have probably ended a lot differently.

Some science is kept secret.

The technical details relating to actually mass manufacturing nuclear weapons for instance.
