Here from reddit, exploring.
I'm a speedcuber, and mostly learned off /r/Cubers. I began solving Rubik's cubes for speed July 2014 and now average my solves under 18 seconds. It's taught me a lot in terms of 3-dimensional thinking and memory. The community is small, and they've been really helpful to me. I'm going to see if I can hang around /v/Cubers to help whomever's interested in picking the hobby up. It only has one post, but I can only assume this site is growing.
Recently the world record was broken by American Collin Burns, with a time of 5.25. The world champion is still considered to be Australian Feliks Zemdegs, widely known to be a robot designed by the Soviets.
Yay for my first comment!

I don't get it. Wouldn't the starting position make a huge difference as to how quickly you could potentially solve the puzzle? it being a matter of just plugging in your solution algorithms?

Golf

Step 0: Fall in love with golf. Resolve to become a great golfer.

Repeat the following steps for the rest of your life:

  1. Watch professional golf on TV, think to yourself, "That doesn't look THAT hard. If I practice a little more I can get really good at golf."

  2. Practice, practice, practice. Practice even more, and some more. Neglect all responsibilities. Family thinks you're dead. Practice more. Fail miserably. Become suicidal. Blame God for your shortcomings. Realize golf was invented by Satan.

  3. Accept you suck at golf. Makes you more depressed.

As someone who's given up on golfing, this is spot on. Played for 5-6 years and kept on sucking. Only got a score of under a hundred a handful of times haha!

Same at basketball here! Guess we could say sports are a tough hobby if you have TV.

I... am getting more curious about model trains. Also model airplanes. Also I want to start my band. And my company. And do space exploration. And stuff. But most of those are 'wants'. I play accordion and try to write code sometimes. Nothing exciting or thought provoking I guess. What about your hobbies?

Model trains are great! Best part is that you can start with a small diorama to try out some small scale modeling. You don't have to invest the money or the space in a whole layout.

That would leave you time for voat. :)

I essentially do 3 things with my life:

  1. Sell my time for money
  2. Climbing/bouldering
  3. Writing/drawing lil cartoons (see it here! http://sidisgood.tumblr.com/)

I guess the last 2 items on the list is how I deal with the near crippling loneliness that is existence. It helps keep my body and mind sharp (according to my standards, at least). I like to think of the stuff that I make as my fruit. I don't know exactly why I make it, and I can't even say that it's great. I just make it.

If it's taller than you, it can be climbed.

Stay light, fingertip pull ups/hangs, rest adequately, and just climb.

I make booze. Specifically, ciders. Right now I have two batches of apple cider going and a batch of perry.

Beer is good, but I'm lazy. Where as beer takes a few hours to get ready even when you're using extract, it takes me about 20 minutes to get a batch of cider ready.

Video editing. It's taken me almost fifteen years to get where I am with it, and boy is it awesome every time I sit down to edit. There's just something about taking all the pieces and making them fit. Lately I've been working a lot with audio as well, to try and clean up some voiceovers. Compare this and this, and you can immediately tell the difference. I've been really working on learning new tricks and whatnot to make my stuff better, and it shows. I love editing video.

I used to, back about ten years ago, but I haven't had a chance since.
