None of us would be here if we weren't. We're on fuckin' Voat.

To answer the question you meant to ask, yes, Americans are fed up with mainstream media. Almost none of us believe anything the media says about anything.

Unfortunately that's not true, or else their ratings would tank. My parents still follow current events almost exclusively for mainstream media.

I think it has a lot less to do with believing what the media says about anything and more about not having any alternatives.

Only 22 can't remember a time I haven't been frustrated with the MSM. Even when I was like 5 I was astonished at how incompetent and untrustworthy they were.

When I was five, my sister always got pissed when I flipped over dragon ball z to watch the news. If I had the world view I know now, I would've watched more GI Joe.

Oh, yeah. Problem is, NON-Mainstream media is also very biased. Have to pay close attention.

True. If you want to get the real news anymore, you have to get it from many sources and you have to be able to think critically and analyze. You can't be taken in by conspiracy sites or hoax sites or parody sites. You also have to understand your own biases and account for them by finding sources that you actually disagree with, but that still have the facts. Getting to the truth of the matter is a huge endeavor, but worth it for those of us who seek it. Luckily for us, the internet is full of information. The hardest part is separating the facts from the half-truths, hyperbole, and straight-up fiction.

Nah. It's fun. It's basically becoming the parody you see in film, except it's not a parody. Life imitating art?

Yes. But, let me explain, it's hard to get news in other ways. When there is breaking news, like a shooting, voat can't send somebody to report on scene. There aren't enough of us. Reddit is good at that, but they've obviously been compromised. There also isn't really a market for objective news. If it's not mainstream media, it's shtfplan (I'm a prepper but I can tell that it's BS) or The Blaze or infowars. Finally, even though I know that mainstream media is all shit, there's a part of my brain that goes, "Oh, the New York Times, you can trust them. They're a reliable source of information." I guess it's just stuck in my head from school guidelines for good sources.

Tl;dr Yes but I don't know what we can do about it

I'm just picturing the Voat goat in a suit, like from v/politics, standing in front of some horrific scene with a microphone.

One of the problems with mainstream media is that they generally present themselves as unbiased. It is one thing for a media outlet that has known media biases and does not hide their agenda to present their viewpoint. People with half-a-clue can see their "news" for what it is. What bothers me, and I imagine you too, is when larger media outlets present themselves as unbiased when they are anything but.

Is it at all possible to create a independent news group from Voat? It's not hard (read not impossible) to self publish content and a weekly Podcast of major events is very doable.
