Well, I'd hate it a lot less. At least racist keyboard warriors let you discuss completely unrelated topics without getting angry

Wound up in a "debate" over how a single, uncorrected for factors like poverty and urbanization, statistic supposedly proved that black people were naturally violent yesterday. The actual topic was about how reddit threads about the shooting in Virginia were getting deleted. On reddit, I hated the SJWs but didn't mind the racists because the SJWs were everywhere while the racists tended to stay in their own dank little corners and leave the rest of us alone. Here on voat the racists are everywhere, and the SJWs have dank little corners. Both situations suck.

I usually post this kind of response. I'm a racist (although I prefer race realist I realise the hypocrisy thar would be involved about me getting tetchy) against blacks and an anti-Semite but unless it's really relevant I never bring it up and keep my opinions to the sub where people want to hear it.

I'm sorry for those who tend to spill out where we're not wanted but I like to think the majority of us try to keep to our turf.

I know it's annoying for people but it might be a necessary evil for voat to take flight.

If we can remain civil and respectful I think we can build a nice place even if the racist corner is a little bigger than normal.

Even though I thoroughly disagree with your beliefs, I have to thank you for keeping it in its place. We can't help if we feel a certain way, but no reason to annoy others with our thoughts. I'm a fat hater and I do the same.

Sounds like you're one of the good ones, if you'll excuse the phrase :P

Was getting brigaded by a couple of posters from /v/niggers over in /v/meanwhileonreddit last night, and I'll tell you, it's no less annoying than when it's SRS doing it on the other site.

If you could to distill your reasons for being racist down to a succinct few sentences, would you do it to satisfy my curiosity?

[–] Gorillion 1 points 7 points (+8|-1) ago

Yeah, after the SJWism and censorship of Reddit, the racists and fat haters of Voat are a breath of fresh air. You get a much better breadth of viewpoints and articles and if something is utterly stupid, downvoat it and move on if you have no intelligent response to make or a rational/thoughtful counter-argument to contribute.

And you can block subverses that spam the front page too much.

But if anyone feels that free speech on Voat is "too free", seriously - fuck off to Snapfu or back to Reddit. Don't tone police Voat.

[–] RunsWithScissors 9 points 86 points (+95|-9) ago

Definitely.

Everyone else kicked them out so the tragedy of limited speech is that the only safe places for unrestricted free speech become cesspools.

That's sort of any even free hate speech is a good idea. In wide social circles, it's immediately rebutted. But when hate speech is banned, its few remaining outlets become echo chambers of incestuous amplification.

[–] Obamadid911 1 points 20 points (+21|-1) ago

It fine as long as it doesn't turn into downvoat brigades. Re***t was horrible about that. You disagree with someone, you get downvoted and then deleted or banned.

Just consider dialogue first if you're going to downvoat people. These things take time to accumulate (unless you cheat).

I'm fine downvoating hate speech. It doesn't contribute.

[–] beijingsteamer 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Agreed! Though it seems there are a handful of voaters who get brigaded. Though honestly I don't see it AS frequently. I am a believer that the squeaky wheel seems to get the most attention. So those who get brigaded are popular posters and get a lot of attention to begin with.

I just wish people understood downvoats don't represent "I disagree" they represent "you're trolling and spam."

This is true, I do get that vibe from websites like this that come from another community that was fractured during a shitstorm. The radical ideals of the group that was forced out becomes disproportionately loud on the new site, when they aren't being contained to their little corners of the site.

Keeping that kind of thing contained is so hard though until enough counterweight is added to sort of balance things out, which Voat is actually pretty good about. For every person who came here to hate other people for stupid reasons, there is someone else who finds that kind of thing repulsive. Of course that also means there other extreme comes out of the woodwork to sometimes "represent" the all the opposing views, which is also really a bother. The secret is getting enough moderates to keep things stable even when the ends of the bell curve are having screaming matches all over the place. At least then there is a core of decent discussion and skepticism.

I'm the same, my primary problem with all the bigots comes from the fact that facts, statistics, straight up provable things, mean nothing to them, a debate without logical might as well be a shouting match.

Score one for confirmation bias I guess.

It makes me reconsider being on Voat.

The racist and sexist shitstorm that is engulfing every thread right now, going along with links pushing nationalist European parties is more disturbing then the overly political correct agenda pushing crowed at the other page.

I guess when it comes down to it I hate racist, sexist and nationalist behavior much more then the misguided attempt of making equality by one sided intervention.

Criticizing racists does not mean you're a Social Justice Warrior.

It's not a strict dichotomy. I dislike SJWs and racists, they're actually far more similar to one another than they think.

[–] Venom1 4 points 3 points (+7|-4) ago

Racist here, but I do try to keep my (negative) opinions in the appropriate subverses. Be that as it may, it sure would be strange... SJWs chased away such folks as myself, only to continue to hound us :/

There are some people like that here. But what do you expect. This is supposed to be a place where anyone can say whatever they feel like without censorship. And we can upvoat or downvoat however we want (hopefully with the intention of making the site better).

The Internet is wide and vast - there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of places on there to go and have discussions. However, not all of those places are "bastions of free speech". So to the generic individual who adheres to the current Politically Correct ideology/policy of the day - they can go and post anywhere they want so long as they don't deviate from what the powers that be say is OK; for anyone who has a free thought outside the bounds of what is "approved" they have a much more limited scope of avenues to follow where they can speak. So now all of those people will be forced into a narrow place (digitally speaking) and you end up with a high volume and high concentration of those people. In the real world you can think of this similar to ghettos and prisons ... high concentrations of poor, perhaps racially segregated, and/or violent/criminal types.

Building on that, the hive-mind and echo-chamber mentality sets in. Those individuals in that environment feed off each other and become increasingly exaggerated versions of themselves (partly because they were all cast to that place under the same or similar reason and that becomes their identity and reason of bond). Throw a decent person into a violent prison for a while and they will either sink (get cast aside, beat, silenced, or killed) or they swim (they learn to become hardened and violent by adapting to their surroundings).

So what does this mean? A lot of this community was cast out of Reddit and other places, so the concentration is high. That can and very well might lead to a polarizing effect here. Much of the common bond here is that people were thrown out of other places for certain views, so that becomes the bond and talking point. Over at Reddit you have a similar thing going on but on opposite end of spectrum - they've purged out certain extreme individuals but not others. So they are concentrated with a community that is intolerant of certain ideals themselves and they are becoming extreme and polarizing.
