Ahh yes. How delicious. You reap all the benefits the government provides for you, and whine that you're being enslaved.
When your house isn't being ransacked by looters, you have the government to thank. When a fire in your neighborhood is extinguished before it spreads to your house, you have the government to thank. When the thought of foreign invasion doesn't even cross other countries minds because of your military, you have the government to thank. When you get in your car and the roads are there with functioning traffic control, you have the government to thank. When the other cars on the road are forced to be safe enough not to fall apart going 60mph and kill you, you have the government to thank.
That shit isn't free. I know a lot of anti-tax loons think they could survive just fine without government services, but they couldn't.
It's not very difficult to live without most government services. Not all, grant you, but most. Just playing devils advocate. I agree with you though, if you want to live in society there is a certain price to pay. (Except for the whole military thing, that's a different discussion altogether.)
I think people fail to appreciate how vital infrastructure is. Roads, water, electricity- all of these things would make starting/running businesses, building houses prohibitively expensive. Growth would end. What's left of social mobility would be erased.
Yeah, just like those anti-mafia people who reap all the benefits of mafia protection but don't wanna pay up! Clearly nothing would happen if it weren't for the mafia looking out for you. Now pay your tribute and shut the fuck up.
