My general web handle (which I will not post here), was simply another choice when the original name I wanted was taken. The original name was Alkaiser, from SaGa Frontier which is a game for the PSX in the late 90s. Obviously, my Voat nickname is an homage to those simple beginnings and youthful wonder at videogames. That being said, I decided to add some flair to it and combine it with the name of Keyser Soze from the film The Usual Suspects (a favourite of mine). Since adopting this nickname for both That Other Site and Voat, only one person has gotten both references without the subject itself being brought up.

So, try a play on popular titles/words/concepts which you hold dear. The portmanteau is an effective way to create a unique identifier that doesn't end up reading like xXx420BlazeEmSmokeEmxXx (just an example here, not a personal judgement on your handle). Alternatively, you can simply make something up and tack it onto a familiar name or phrase as I do with my general web handle. A delightful yet simple pun or play on words/numbers is also a good way to express yourself and keeps your name memorable.

In summation, there are many ways to create a nickname. In my opinion, I like keeping the name close to something dear to me. Some people prefer something funny that isn't directly associated with them. However, I feel that is enough about myself and others views. How did you choose your handle for Voat?
