Voat does not give an automatic benefit of the doubt to liberals, democrats and corporations as reddit and the mass media do.

Left and Right issues are based on the merits of the story here.

After a few years of having gay / sjw / multiculturalism and other "left" issues rammed down our throats, most (and even many who hold such values) are tired of the obvious bias found on reddit and the media in general.

Lol ya fucking right. The front page has been flooded with bullshit sources pushing a political agenda. It's disgraceful and frightening to realize that some people take these posts at face value. It's naiive to think voat is not susceptible to the same manipulation as everything else.

My philosophy is - question everything. Never assume someone is trustworthy unless they give you a source and an explanation for why that source should be trusted. Otherwise, trust what you read at your own risk.

Um, ofc bullshit floods through here, but it's a different batch of bullshit from reddit's shit. For anyone capable of detecting and analyzing biases in sources, Voat is a refreshing switch from Reddit, because biases are bit more honest here. They still exist, and are everywhere, but they are more straightforward and less astroturfy. Maybe our shills are just less talented, but either way it's a nice change.

It would help if people read the article too. Just the other day was an article titled something like "Target to remove gender" and people were doing the typical outrage things, though fortunately it didn't go up too high, because then there would have been more. In reality, what they were removing gender labels from was toys and bedding. No big deal.

The problem with trying to read news from website like this is it's subject to people's attitudes and agendas. What you end up seeing the most is a reflection of the general attitudes. So you end up with deliberately picked stories to feed people's outrage.

Uh, have you been on reddit in a while? A large amount of redditors are as anticorporate as are Voaters. Hell, subreddits like technology, politics, lostgeneration and worldnews are incredibly anticorporate.

They just think they are. When it's Chipotle, or Google self driving cars, or Elon Musk Tesla stuff, they slather on the lip gloss and the smoochfest is on.

It's easy to hate on a company that makes pesticides or something less obviously beneficial. These people become decidedly less principled and more wishy washy when the product is cool or tasty.

The mirror image of one type of bias is not a lack of bias, just an inverted version. Unsupported opinionated assertions are even more common and more popular now than just a few months ago.
