Some scientist (too lazy to source) published a paper saying that vaccines can lead to autism. His methods of experimentation were laughable, but the masses love a good scandal, even if it's completely false. Although his paper has been disproven by countless medical professionals, the movement had already gained enough momentum to be near unstoppable. Its much easier to get rid of intelligence then it is to get rid of stupid, at least when it comes to people like that.

Because there haven't been any unbiased studies that have actually proven they are 100% safe.
The only studies that I am aware of which have been done on them and "prove" they are safe end up leading back to funding by big pharma.
No one (with a logical brain) is saying they cause autism. No one is saying if you get vaccinated you will definitely become sick and die. However there are aspects to the vaccines which do not seem to be safe and it is the duty of any responsible scientist to investigate them and make them safe. But when the entire industry is filled with bribery and general dishonesty, we have a reason to suspect wrongdoing. We're just asking for proof - unbiased proof, that is, that they are actually completely safe as the doctors claim.
Personally, what rings the alarm bells for me, is that there is a FIERCE propaganda campaign against anyone who even so much as questions our right to have an unbiased study on these things being shoved into our bodies. The kind of things that get circlejerked to the front page of Reddit are 90% shill posts, and when you get posts like these from brand new accounts hitting 5000+ upvotes in an hour, calling for anti-vax people to completely ostracized from society... I cannot help but think there is an astroturfing effort by shills to tell us what we're supposed to think, instead of thinking for ourselves. And to me, that's reason enough to suspect wrongdoing.
The propaganda is what rings alarm bells for me as well. I've also seen studies that say vaccines expose infants to 50% more mercury than they would normally experience from age 1-2. The weird thing: the same study calls a 50% increase in yearly mercury exposure an insignificant amount. I don't buy it.
No one is saying the polio vaccine is dangerous. In fact most of them are safe. But when a new vaccine comes out, waiting to make sure there isn't an issue isn't a bad thing.
I agree with you, I upvoted you, BUT FOR CHRISSAKES PEOPLE VACCINES ARE SAFE AND NECESSARY FOCUS ON THE REAL ISSUES WITH BIG PHARMA NOT THE VACCINES THAT HAVE LITERALLY SAVED MILLIONS OF LIVES!

Short version: A doctor by the name of Andrew Wakefield published a study on the correlation of the MMR vaccination to autism. His paper was accepted by many without any forethought and brandished by scientifically illiterate people as a work of art.
Now for long version: Andrew Wakefield was the writer of a study about the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccine and its correlation to autism. In his paper he describes what he calls "Autistic enterocolitis". For those not medically literate, that means autism from the colon. His own hypothesis was that the vaccine damaged the intestines, which damaged a protein, which then was trasnported to the brain and CAUSED autism. Notice the transfer from correlation to causation that he reported.
The problems with his study were as follows:
His sample was 12 children. This does not follow any scientific method about sample size, nor does it cover a diverse population or have a control.
All twelve children were known to already have social disorders related to autism, if not autism itself. His paper did not report this however, and all children were regarded as medically normal for its purposes.
There was a massive conflict of interest in his study. He had an MMR patent and diagnostic tests to find MMR in the intestines. Clearly with his findings he could monetize the shit out of frightened parents who don't know any better.
He was being paid by lawyers looking for their next suit as well.
Based on the study, an investigation was launched. Andrew Wakefield had his medical license revoked. Further, he was charged with child abuse for testing those children at his own house without a review board to give the go-ahead or watch to ensure patient safety.
Now, without even looking at the flaws in Wakefield's paper, we can look to other evidence that autism is not caused by vaccination. For one, vaccination rates have declined since Wakefield's study, yet diagnosis for autism has increased. Were his findings correct, we would expect to see that diagnosis decreases for autism spectrum disorders. Further, a Danish study of 500k children found MMR doesn't cause autism. Even while Wakefield's "research" was happening, the suspected component of vaccines that cause autism (thiomersal) were gradually being phased out. Thiomersal is a mercury based molecule that is able to preserve vaccines for long periods of time. This is obviously good because one dose of a vaccine is often small, and one vial can be used for multiple patients. However, other chemicals were being found that had better preservation and didn't use heavy metals, despite no effects being seen with the use of thiomersal.
Hopefully this provides light on why people grasp his study (it sounds like a scientific paper to those not fluent in science), and how it can be shown as both flawed and outright false.
By the way, whoever is downvoting those answering the question. Refute what we say. Otherwise you're just showing your stupidity. And with it, we see the human race as a whole isn't literate. Further, Voat's new no limit CCP policy. Glad I could get a degree in this shit and you idiots can't see how stupid you truly are.

Nothing can be proven 100% safe. Not even 100% certified free trade gluten free organic free range chia seeds.
However, how many people do you know currently confined to an iron lung?

IIRC, the onset of regressive autism happens at about the same time as the MMR vaccine is usually given.

It was certainly popularized by MTV Scientist Jenny McCarthy and her scientific analysis of "after therefore because" regarding her sample size of 1.
