I'm back and immediately changed rule #1, something I never agreed with and argued against.

no soapboxing

Seen this a lot on Reddit via /r/undelete. Usually means "deleted because some mod disagrees with the politics."

That is what I questioned /u/Stoic about, although I think he thought I was asking about editing rule 1. I wasn't very clear in my question so I accept all fault.

That edit to rule 3 to include soapboxing was completely unnecessary and the mod who changed it should be removed immediately.

I think that rules work best when paired with clear definitions. It's okay to have rules against things like "clickbait" and "low effort posts", but it's better for everyone if those rules are paired with very clear definitions on what qualifies as those things. It prevents selective enforcement and means that mods can't (and don't have to) come up with interpretations on the fly. It also allows mods to point to very clear violations when they occur and have the definitions on paper to back them up. Transparency, clarity, and safeguards against selective enforcement. Well defined rules are much harder to apply unfairly.

For those of us catching up? What was rule 1 changed from?

Post titles must include a question "?"

Just FYI, and apologies for the double reply, I have updated the original post to clarify the intent of it. Welcome back, and good luck.

Finally, common sense prevails. It's a good start.
