But if moderators make the rules how do they represent the community, its more like they tell the community what to do, wouldn't the up/down vote count represent the will of the community?

If you don't like how a mod runs a sub, make a new sub and run it how you want.

How do you expect a sub of 100 dedicated users to fight against a brigade of 500?

If you don't like how a mod runs a sub, make a new sub and run it how you want.

This ignores the name squatting. /v/politics is going to get more new users than /v/realpolitics, /v/truepolitics, and /v/politics2 combined.

My one concern is that /v/askvoat is a default sub. Any non-default sub, I wouldn't care, but...this one is worth talking about.

In the current mod log for askvoat there are many things I wouldn't want delete but here we are.

Do my views not represent the will of the community?

Upvoat and downvoats are great for the community, but if a post doesn't obey the rules, sometimes it needs to get taken down. Like a screenshot with personal identifying information. An upvoat and downvoat button isn't going to be effective in taking that down immediately.

Like a screenshot with personal identifying information.

According to Voat's TOS posting that kind of information (sensitive identifying information of someone else) is against the rules anyway, so it should be something moderated across the site.

There are more Voat rules in the TOS that should be handled by all mods everywhere though, which include:

These guidelines are intended to keep people safe, protect kids, keep voat running, and to encourage personal responsibility for what you do on voat. You must: Keep Everyone Safe: You agree to not intentionally jeopardize the health and safety of others or yourself. Keep Personal Information Off voat: You agree to not post anyone's sensitive personal information that relates to that person's real world or online identity. Do Not Incite Harm: You agree not to encourage harm against people. Protect Kids: You agree not to post any child pornography or sexually suggestive content involving minors. Take Personal Responsibility: As you use voat, please remember that your speech may have consequences and could lead to criminal and civil liability.

Subverses may create their own rules and enforce them as they see fit, providing they do not violate the terms of this agreement. You agree that voat is not responsible for the actions taken or not taken by moderators.

In order for a website to enforce these rules they do need moderators in all subs to help Admins enforce the TOS, at bare minimum.

You can, and should have community input on the rules.
