Maybe if the admins made it possible to permanently alter the subverse style it would work if you wanted to.

Reddit makes it possible to remove the downvoat button, but you have the option to view the subreddit with it's original style and still downvoat a comment. Perhaps if we could alter this and not make it possible to revert this changes by going to the original style we could let the mods decide whether they want to:

  • Remove downvoat (and avoid people to try to remove arguments they disagree),
  • Remove the number of upvoats and downvoats comments have on threads
  • Or even ban voating at all (4chan style).

It would be great if mods had this power and it would influence the users to subscribe to a subverse or not, if you want to remove karma whores or people that can't handle discussion.

This way we could make everyone happy with the system.

This way we could make everyone happy with the system.

This is your first problem. Your goal is to make everyone happy at the cost of being PRACTICAL.

Somebody will always be offended. Our goal should be to make voat work better than reddit not worry about people's feelings. If voat focuses on quality instead of karma, it can only improve and will only draw in more people Vs. trying to worry about everyone's feelings before making the site functional and one that promotes discussion.

My point is that some subverses might want to keep the upvote/downvoat system for their own reasons (photoshopbattles, for instance, where the whole point is to vote on a specific image) and some may want to keep the upvote only (like jokes of funny comments) or abolish the whole voting method as to keep things more like 4chan or 8chan...

The thing is, if we eliminate voting completely we might discourage people from posting on some subverses and consequently lose original content, one of the key things to make Voat prosper IMO.
