But here we can still make a change.

Nobody on Reddit really gives a shit what we think... here, we're fighting the problem before it really gets a chance to start.

if this was Reddit, we would have all been banned from AskVoat hours and hours ago.

Voat is new, we get to make it what we want... the'll be some bumps in the road to establish the type of community we want to build here.

you can't change a broken system when you rely on said broken system.

we've already shown the fallacy of using imaginary internet points and how keyboard warriors jerk off to their karma count and downvoat anything that causes them butthurt. this system is flawed and relies on mere popularity of opinion vs actual profoundness of thought.

until we remove this faggot karma system, we'll forever live in a world where insecure keyboard jockeys desperately try to win the validation of strangers over the internet.

So how do we keep interesting things on the front page and troll posts off without upvoats/downvoats? Would we instead just have upvoats and don't record them in any visible way?

If you want that it already exists on 4chan. Votes are useful for getting momentum on quality posts and identifying users who are shitposting/trolling instead of offering proper content.

Maybe if the admins made it possible to permanently alter the subverse style it would work if you wanted to.

Reddit makes it possible to remove the downvoat button, but you have the option to view the subreddit with it's original style and still downvoat a comment. Perhaps if we could alter this and not make it possible to revert this changes by going to the original style we could let the mods decide whether they want to:

  • Remove downvoat (and avoid people to try to remove arguments they disagree),
  • Remove the number of upvoats and downvoats comments have on threads
  • Or even ban voating at all (4chan style).

It would be great if mods had this power and it would influence the users to subscribe to a subverse or not, if you want to remove karma whores or people that can't handle discussion.

This way we could make everyone happy with the system.

exactly!

Nip the problem now so the future of Voat can sustain itself with its users and not its moderators. When the weak become powerful; it generally spells disaster.

We need democratic moderation. Badly.

This is not the norm. Or atleast it wasn't. Hopefully it's not the new norm, either.

I'm starting to convince myself there might be just one person with many alt accounts who are posting from one account and then arguing with themselves from another and using others to form supporting roles for and against those ... all for the purpose of causing havok, confusion, and polarizing the community.

How can we get her mod status removed? I know some of you don't think this yet but I believe she has already deemed herself unfit of being a moderator for AskVoat. So if we (the community of Voat) decides to do something about it, what could we do?

Did you read the first shit post about this? She removed a link that broke an AskVoat rule. Then people are digging through her post history and harassing her for her opinion? You and the other shitposters are acting like SJWs not her.

I'm so disheartened to see this ramping up today. I come here for content and getting away from Reddit drama.

/v/all is basically a storm front web page

Granted, there is that. But I've blocked many subverses, and that usually allows some decent content to surface.

well, it's a bunch of people, you're going to have drama.

Some of ideas to resolve it were pretty good. Better to have stuff to deal with drama baked in now, than to have it ignored later.

So something popular (that also happens to be talking about something one particular mod does not like) equals soapboxing?

Makes sense to me!!!!!!!!!

Did you know that that rule didn't exist two hours ago? https://voat.co/v/AskVoat/comments/403100

Now people are citing it like it's carved into marble.

Since when did the voice of a single person become more valuable than what the community wants? This is Voat, not Reddit.

I don't mind mods doing what they want. We can see the logs here, and thus hold them accountable through transparency, which means we will inherently see more bad mod outrage here than in reddit. We can also start our own subs when it's time to move on.

It's the admins I don't want to have power.

There is a solution. Its called actually functioning, democratic moderation. Literally everything that mods do could be replaced by a system of detailed flagging posts/comments(your post is taken down if a certain number/percentage of people label it as 'off-topic', for example.

[–] Brolansi 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Though this seems like a possible solution, it can still be abused by any random SJW hate group.
