All rules are enforced at the discretion of the staff. This is why you use a human for the job, instead of automating it. Good cops don't ticket for 2 over.

But right now the sub is up in arms about the personal agenda being pushed by a particular mod. Why not try and remove as much subjectivity as possible?

In she's shoes, I would have left that thread for another moderator to deal with. Much like a judge presiding over a court case with a conflict of interest is supposed to recuse themselves. She is not the only moderator that could handle this. THAT would remove far more suspicion of agenda pushing than anything.

Most people here aren't idiots though. No one is going to be upset that a rule was not pedantically enforced. NOT enforcing that rule, particularly in this case, does nothing to advance the agenda (one of censorship and social justice ideals) that we are worried about. Deleting threads, particularly critical threads about the very agenda that people are concerned about, THAT seems a conflict of interest, and cause for further concern.
