EDIT: I’ve got enough of the recorded meeting in a video, and I have screenshots of the comments from the senior engineer, which is actually the most important part. I will likely be chatting with an attorney today.
...
In the meeting, the head of HR (a White female) said, “We get a lot of applicants for our jobs, and they all look the same - you know what I mean. ... As of now we will be pausing the hiring of non POC until we find applicants who fit the racial mix we want in the company.”
Now here’s the crucial part. A leading engineer posed a question through the meeting chat. He asked for clarification on this since it’s difficult to find qualified candidates. The HR gal verbally responded that yes they’d delay hiring Whites In favor of POCs.
And the engineer then asked for further clarification stating that this means we’re effectively not hiring White people since a company has a short window within which to hire a good candidates (meaning they’ll get snapped up by another firm).
HR gal did not respond to this as I think it treads on illegality.
Can anyone confirm this? Also, what can I do about this? As I said the meeting was recorded.

Canadian company so I am not sure about the legality. It was just their general attitude that the workplace needed to be more diverse because better??? I understand a smaller business needs to use every angle they have but 5 employees that were virtually worthless, you would think they would take notice. Anyways, I am gone and they can sleep in their own bed. I am quite happy with my new job as my entire team of devs are White, straight engineer types.

Glad you got out and into a merit-based company. For any sort of programming work it should be expected to learn whatever languages needed to do the job. God only knows how many we had to learn in our CS programs. Hell, there was a class dedicated to forcing us to do projects in multiple different languages through the entire semester. And one of the optional web dev classes used 8 different languages just to show us all the different methods.

Wow, I just happened to teach myself for the past 20 years and do have a degree in Network Engineering but I never thought of writing the same project in several frameworks. You have inspired me to take this new perspective as it would help to understand the benefits and negatives of each language. I have always wanted a CS degree for these type of insights and now you have inspired me to think outside my box. Now bug off as I have a lot of coding to do!

Thanks. I could see the writing on the wall and knew I would have to relocate. Onwards and upwards is the only motto I have.
