They share majority of the gene composition. Thats why this virus is called sars-cov-2. Chloroquine was proven to work against sars-cov. HCQ is simply a less toxic medicinal version of chloroquine, so it will work the same. The use of HCQ in practice has proven it extremely successful in treating SARS-COV-2 when paired with zinc and zithromax.
