Yeah, you've been downvoted by one particular user. This is a big problem to me and we will be dealing with this soon.

Please be patient while we decide on how to best handle this.

Other voaters, if you feel you've been downvoted by one particular user just PM me so I can see how prevalent this issue really is.

Thanks. I'm not upset. Just trying to understand how everything works. I know we have a lot of growing pains to sort through. I'm here for the long haul, I hope.

Thanks for being so understanding. We'll get this sorted sooner rather than later.

Have you considered adding a daily limit on downvoating a user A by yser B? I think funnyjunk had something like that.

[–] piratse 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

easy, you can only downvote in correlation to your upvotes. You can even set a maximum amount of DV a day.

I've been thinking about this. I don't know about your DB structure so don't know how feasible these are:

A) Limit change in ccp per day (either plus or negative) for any given user. This would prevent the downvoting from one person but also via mass pitchforking. It would also prevent the circlejerking upvoting that gets a possibly small group to start up voting themselves and then populating /v/all with garbage stuff. You'd only have to add one field to user profile: "# changed" each day. This would be easiest I think. The message would be "this user has received the max possible up/down CCP points for the day"

B) Limit change one user can make in any other users' CCP Might be more DB intensive as you'd have to count the voter and votee's actions. The message would be "You cannot change this user's CCP points any more by up/downvoting their comments"

I'd vote for A since that seems easier to program and does not encourage sock-puppetry to get around the ban.

All the non-dickheads on voat will upvoat you. :)

And to answer your question, it looks like someone cruised through all of your comments and downvoated everything.

To be honest, all of your counter arguements are well put and thought provoking, and since I've lurked(due to having no educational input on GMOs to contribute) and seen them alot I went ahead and upvoated them. Not as like an upvoat brigade, but simply because I enjoy seeing people give reason to research. Thank you for contributing to the conversations, downvoats aside, I've learned alot from both sides.

And that's how you made more CCP in one day than me in one month :) I was lucky about SCP though. Anyways, wasn't there a downvoat limit? Like 20 per day or so? If not, it should be.

Unlimited? Look at my ccp, I still hit max upvoats.

It drove me nuts on reddit when I would post something and some asshole would go and and down vote everything in my history.

Ha ha ha, I found the thread and now he's doing the same thing to me. Luckily, I got a shit ton of ccp and comments. I wonder what type of impotent life leads that this is how he chooses to express his "power."

I'm surprised nobody's written a script to do this yet. Considering the lack of limit and how long it's taking Voat to fix the problem, someone could wreak serious havoc by running it on every user.

[–] TheRiteGuy 1 points 7 points (+8|-1) ago

How would you go about writing a scipt like this? And I don't mean for downvoting people but scripts in general. I'm trying to learn and get better at programming. And I'm trying to automate some tasks at work that require a lot of repetitive mouse clicking and I want to know how I can automate these tasks. It seems like it's not as simple as learning a programming language.

It is dedication. Even if you have 10,000ccp you're limited on downvoats if you're a "meanie."

I don't know what the down vote limit is on voat (I can't down vote and could probably never hit a limit if I tried) but you've definitely submitted enough comments to bring your CCP down more than 79 points. Either one user is super butthurt or somebody is briggading you?

6

[–] sodalis [S] 6 points 84 points (+90|-6) ago

My profile doesn't indicate that many downvoats, which is why I'm curious. If I am brigaded, it would show, right? I'd expect to see a shit ton of downvoats with each comment, and my history only shows the one guy, with an exception of a comment here and there. The math on my profile doesn't jive.

Just as a point of note, it's not always the person you're having an argument with who is doing the downvoting - it may be someone else who disagrees with your stance vehemently. In your case, though, it does look to be that person (considering the number of downvotes they're recorded as having given).

[–] sodalis [S] 2 points 23 points (+25|-2) ago

Yeah. I would expect an indication of more downvotes from others. No biggie. Just trying to grasp how the system works here.

I appreciate it. I do often engage unhinged people. I'm not a troll, but I find that in these "debates" I am arguing for the benefit of other readers more than I am the entrenched person with whom I am arguing. They rarely change their minds, and when they do they admit it with even less frequency. But I like science, and I think more people need to respect the science they often do not understand or have been misled about.

I think they assume I must be a shill. I am not, for the record. But I do defend GMO food, which is not the majority opinion, apparently.

But I do defend GMO food, which is not the majority opinion, apparently.

It is the majority opinion. Ask any scientist. We've been genetically modifying food for over 10,000 years and the world hasn't ended. The anti-GMO side is the fringe crackpot side, mostly featuring leftists who will find any excuse they can to demonize a successful industry. So while you may have pissed off one troll, you can take comfort in knowing that the majority of rational human beings agrees with you.

Edit: Woops! Nevermind. I forgot something that nomerasques pointed out:

If you get into negative ccp, the amount of comments you can make get limited until you cannot comment anymore

Readers can disregard the below - it doesn't apply with the above quote.

I disagree with that mentality completely. What's the point in commenting if your don't actually speak your mind?

Also, creating a CCP cushion techically achieves nothing: overall CCP doesn't affect the visibility of specific comments - and that's assuming CCP matters in the first place.

The only real gain to that would be that it would take that person longer to downvoat you - but that doesn't matter if you've already preemptively wasted time making BS comments specifically to counteract downvoats.
