Oh, those are shit for poor people. You haven't tasted the chocolate made by small stores. Also if it has a cocoa percentage on it and a fancy package, it's gonna be good.

Yeah, ITT: People who think the only chocolate to come out of America is Hersheys. And they got rid of Twinkies once for a reason.

Seriously. Trader Joe's sells good chocolate, and you can find handmade chocolate stores in nearly any big city.

I think it's unfair to compare the chocolate as some fancy American chocolate store to the chocolate at the counter in a convenience store. Cadburys isn't some small run chocolate, it's basic commodity chocolate that's sold cheaply to kids. The only reason it's not in the US at the same price as Hershies is because Hershies pays them not to.

Funny you should say that as American milk chocolate candy often contains butyric acid. Butyric acid is a carboxylic acid found in rancid butter, parmesan cheese, and vomit.

Hershey process milk chocolate is cheaper to make than other types of chocolate as it is less sensitive to the freshness of the milk. The process is a trade secret, but experts speculate that the milk is partially lipolyzed, producing butyric acid, which stabilizes the milk from further fermentation. This compound gives the product a particular sour, "tangy" taste, to which the US public has become accustomed, to the point that other manufacturers often add butyric acid to their milk chocolates.

Note that this is done because original, actual milk chocolate does not have a very long shelf life.. and is expensive to produce.

Our chocolate is shit, but it came about in a time when only the rich got to eat chocolate and Hershey's was able to make it cheap and easily transportable so everyone could eat it. Its shit quality, but everyone got it because that's all they could afford and they hadn't tried good chocolate. Now, people just eat it because they had it as a kid, and don't bother to get good chocolate. Its shit, but its cheap and assessable shit.

However, corn dogs are the best shit ever. Putting it on a stick makes it easy to walk and eat or easy to dip into sauce. Plus, that shit is delicious. I get not liking all the different candies and treats, but not liking corn dogs is plain wrong.

It would be better if the corn meal breading wasn't shit, and was something closer to actual cornbread rather than slightly more savory twinkie breading.

Also, replace the bologna tube with something closer to meat.

I like food and love my sweets and have line in Canada my entire life. But personally I detest most North American chocolate products and I find many cheaper chocolate products here to be disgusting. Personally I buy imported chocolate, and while it may be more expensive it actually tastes good.

Ghiradelli in San Francisco is pretty famous for their chocolate. Not sure if it's good or not as I don't eat sweets.

Chocolate aficionado from CA here.

Ghirardelli is good, but if you want the really good shit try See's chocolate.

And, I'm sorry if you don't like your meat products... Oh wait... Slim Jims, your XXXL McDonalds you can buy, meats on sticks, must I go on?

Don't feel sorry for us we have lots of really good chocolate here in America it just happens that the bar everyone thinks of when talking about American chocolate is Hershey's. There is a growing amount of small artisan chocolate makers pooping up in America my favorite is http://www.amanochocolate.com/ its made just down the street from me and is amazing! So yes Hershey's nasty but the best chocolate I have ever had is made right in my local valley.

I wouldn't trust their chocolate if they're "pooping up"

Thank you! The same thing basically happened to me. See, I board at a boarding school and we have loads of international students. My American friend had never had a bar of Cadbury's chocolate before and she was amazed! But she struggled at seeing my obsession with Jaffa Cakes... But no, British chocolate > American chocolate. No doubt, there.

The cookies and cream version is like every nightmare ever, condensed into a mass produced sweet. I'm sure other people may have had more positive experiences with it, but those people are most likely suffering from hallucinations caused by their body's desperate attempts to avoid death by shock.

No one knows WTF Tootsie Rolls are supposed to be... they kinda have their own flavor, and you either kinda like it, or you don't.

Hershey's chocolate does taste like wax. In fact, most chocolate that you find in the check-out lane at the supermarket is about the same.

Twinkies don't even decompose, not sure how you were expecting to be able to digest that junk.

So... This American agrees with ya - you're pretty spot-on with your assessment.

Tootsie Rolls are chocolate-flavored taffy. Not very good taffy, mind you, but technically taffy.

You can make it at home, as presented on Good Eats
