This is honestly my first choice and what I will be doing tomorrow. Unfortunately being an idiot is not a crime.

And have fresh coffee waiting for those poor officers. It's not like they wouln't rather be doing something useful.

What's the loudest gun you have or can purchase cheaply?

I don't know much about guns but I'm a firm believer in freedom. Shotgun?

Also buy your other neighbors pies or beers or steaks. Apologize and explain that it's about freedom and will only last a week or two.

I know some people are saying go speak to her, but if you do be very careful cause there is a good chance if you go to talk to her, she will panic for no reason and call the cops before you even knock on the door.

Edit: maybe next time she calls the cops, ask them to escort you over to her house so that you can talk to her understand what her problem is..

I'm very afraid to go talk to her. Her first impulse was to call the police instead of talking to her neighbor like most people would. Too late now.

This. The police will get tired of the shit. I had someone do something similar to me a couple summers ago. I just kept doing my own thing and minding my own business. Eventually it turned into a "boy who cried wolf" situation. People stopped listening to reports that person made. As long as you are polite with officers, and mind your own business it will blow over. It's just a temporary annoyance and will work itself out. It's just a test of your patience.

Just keep going. She'll eventually give up, or you could file a harassment suit.

Before you start to target practice call the sheriff's department in your county and ask to speak to a deputy. Inform them that you are about to legally fire your weapons on your property. When the woman calls they will have no need to come out to see what is happening.

[–] chmod [S] 3 points 53 points (+56|-3) ago

Er, no. I'm not calling anyone to inform them I'm about to do something perfectly legal.

Be respectful of her and call her before you do anything loud.

OLD LADY I'M GOING TO POOP! HAD BEANS SO MAY BE LOUD!

Then you do not really want to resolve the situation, you just want to be right.

I agree, You shouldn't have too do that, but I bet the local deputies would be grateful.

Best of luck with your neighbor.

At least let your neighbour know if you can. Just call her and say "I'm about to shoot my guns. Don't worry no crime is happening." That way when the police show up they can say "He told you. So next time we will fine you for abusing emergency lines". If you tell her then legally that's sound.

But why should OP need to take this added step?

He's doing something legal, and it's the neighbor causing the issue; let the police get fed up with the reports and issue her a citation for it.

[–] glutenglutton 0 points 16 points (+16|-0) ago  (edited ago)

The neighbor is probably being a huge dick and the cops are probably just a frustrated as the OP? He's not asking for permission, he's extending a courtesy to some people who's jobs will become harder indirectly from his actions.

Would be a move to get on their nice side, for sure.

He doesn't "need" to, but he's faced with the choice of talking to the cops before she calls them or after she calls them. I think calling them first is probably less of a pain in the ass, but I wouldn't think less of someone who felt differently.

This is the exact advice given to me by a sheriff for almost the exact same situation. They told me it's perfectly legal to shoot, but someone WILL call and they HAVE to come investigate unless I inform them ahead of time. Then dispatch can politely tell the person calling in, everything is ok, no they won't send the sheriff out.

So.. what you're saying is, if I'm going to rob a guy, I should call the police first?

Asking permission to do what is legally your right to do

That's not what they suggested. They suggested informing the police he was about to do something legal.

Implying the cops don't deal with this all the time

Where is that implied?

Implying the cops aren't one more phone call away from screening this woman's calls

You're implying they are without any reason to think so.

Implying OP shouldn't just talk to his neighbor

If that's your suggestion to OP then make your own comment directly replying to OP.

Have you talked to your neighbor about why she insists on calling the cops? Seen if it's something you can work out between the two of you?

I mean, yes, you can legally crush her and ruin her life (it's relatively easy), but this is your neighbor, you're going to have to live next to this person for a while, so maybe it'd be best to try and find a way to settle this amicably.

I wouldn't do that. If this lady has called the cops that many times and was screaming at the emergency operator the last time she called, then it's not unreasonable to assume she'd call the cops as soon as the guy came to her house. She might claim that she thought he was there to do her harm. I also wouldn't be surprised if she just lied and told the cops he hit her or broke her window, or something else to get him in trouble.

[–] Derbl 1 points 3 points (+4|-1) ago

Yeah, if he does go over there, best to just shoot her.

Maybe shoot any witnesses too.

this. I was going to say exactly this, there is a good chance if he goes to talk to her, she will panic for no reason and call the cops before he even knocks on the door.

[–] Ellen-pao-is-fat 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Yeah I would at least talk to her before doing anything drastic. Don't stop ahooting by any means just ask her what her problem is. She could at least have the decency to ask you to stop in person. So then you could politely tell her no and inform her that you're not violating any laws.

You don't have anything.. If she keeps calling the cops then that's going to get in her in trouble

[–] daehremmah 0 points 15 points (+15|-0) ago

Invite the cops over for a friendly target / skeet shoot, maybe fire up the grill too. When she calls, they will already be there, and you can invite her over for food. Don't forget an extra set of hearing protection so she can enjoy herself.

Per google silencers are legal in alabama.

Not telling you to spend money to make your neighbor happy, but it is an option.

Silencers are fun, but it's a pain to get one.
