Because downvoats don't matter, they mean different things to different people and anyone can give a downvoat once they reach the threshold.

Just because you got one downvoat you didn't understand doesn't mean the community has become hostile.

The trick is to not care and if you are a genuine person with ideas and opinions the upvoats always outweigh the down.

Exactly. Downvoats are here to stay and like it or not people are going to downvoat based on their opinions. Nothing can change that. Just accept that fact and move on instead of being perpetually worried about how others spend their time voating.

Right - I think it's pretty well established by now that people gon' downvote

I work with GMOs daily and also have a profound understanding of them that I can always justify with supporting scientific high impact research. I get downvoted if I don't say GMOs are terrible. This includes when I state conservative opinions. Your logic only stands if you fall into agreement with site lines.

The problem is that a single downvoat from the first person who happens to visit your comment can bury it, preventing other people from seeing it unless they dig through the thread, scrolling to the bottom and clicking on all the "expand" links.

A better system would be that downvoats don't do anything at all unless: 1) There are at least three of them 2) There are at least 2x more downvoats than upvoats

This would ensure that controversial posts that are receiving lots of support are visible.

More people getting 100 CCP maybe? I can't speak for the hive but I'm guessing people will use the down arrow to signal disagreement, regardless of the rules. Unfortunately.

Why don't they just get rid of the downvoats and tern them all to likes since the kids cant handle a downvoat. babys... whaa whaa waa!

Opinion-downvoaters are typically people who got onto reddit late in the game and just don't understand the concept of downvoting only spam and other irrelevant content. The amount of them has certainly risen lately, probably due to them reaching 100 CCP.

As Voat grows more popular, it attracts more diverse users. As it grows older, more users gain the ability to downvoat. Some users are smart, some users are dumb, but all users are here.

Doesn't that not apply since we are invite-only now?

Some people may have taken longer to get their 100 CCP. I just got mine a few days ago.

What, we're still invite only? I don't know if I like that.

No because the only reason registrations were closed was because so many new users came in.

I think the more popular a thing gets, the douche-ratio changes as well. Communal behaviour down the drain. Hide behind a huge audience and treat others as if they weren't human beings.

I blocked FPH not because I disagree with it, because I don't. It was just too much negativity. Bad vibes. Besides that, it's been normal.

PS: Fuck you and have a nice day :)

[–] Pissed-Off-Panda 1 points 16 points (+17|-1) ago

I just did the same yesterday. I don't mind it, and actually enjoy the lulz when they're there. But its been all over the front/all page lately and the stuff is just negative. People obsessed with everything fat people say and do. Making fun of them (so I can lol) is one thing, but just their general obsession is something I don't understand Get a life, FPH'ers.

[–] Taurich 1 points 15 points (+16|-1) ago

I'm a fat guy, and FPH doesn't make me feel bad about myself or anything, it's just the overall negativity that bothers me. It's like that shitty neighbour everyone has had at some point, that will threaten old ladies with a hockey stick because their dog sniffed a tree on their property (this happened with two of my neighbours last week).

I understand not liking something, or being put off by things, that's fine. You're allowed to have those feelings. What I don't understand, is focusing in on something so tightly, that you fuel your own rage and hate. I don't know how someone can live a life that angry, all the time, every day. Why would you want to do that?

Fat people are a drain on resources and contribute nothing to society though, past a certain BMI they should all be euthanized.

How do you block a subverse?

Why don't more people realize they can just use the block button? So many people complain about it, but it's just that simple.

Another reason why I support Voat's invitations to be closed. It seems that any discussion-oriented community that gets too big becomes unsustainable - see what happened to digg and reddit. I would rather see a hundred smaller sites which people could subscribe to one or more of them.

Even better would be for Voat to open invitations but make users mostly powerless with very limited voting and posting, much higher than what it is now. Then it would only give full privileges to the most active of those beta-users at the end of the year or something. I know, it's a crazy idea but something to think about for the future as a way to prevent brigading and vandalism.

I think some metric of having to prove your aptitude would be nice. I hate to constantly show basic scientific literature to defend a point that is already generally accepted in science. The same thing with the whole windows 10 debacle here on Voat. A user posted an itemized list rebutting all of the 'reasons' that people are mad at windows 10 right now for 'right' infringements. The U/D is almost at ~66% even though his answers are rational and correct but break the echo chamber. It is annoying when tech/sci/pol/etc illiterate people feel their contributions are of equal weight to an expert. This generation of pseudo-experts are annoying because they always fail to see how incompetent they are when it comes to having a conversations with any depth. That is not to say I have never had an interesting conversation of Voat, but I do not post expecting to see intelligent replies.

What subverses have you been venturing into? Because I can tell you for a fact, certain subverses have been negative, hateful, and downvoat happy since their inception.

In general though, I wouldn't say it has become more negative, but it has become harder to make you viewpoint heard, as the number of people commenting on posts has increased. This can be seen as a good thing, but it does mean that some comments are bound to end up getting lost under the increase in upvoats.

Do you have any examples to perhaps shed some light on what exactly you think has led to this feeling of general negativity?

[–] thouliha 0 points 9 points (+9|-0) ago

Don't let downvotes bother you. There's no other way id rather have people express their disagreement. Sometimes downvotes can change your opinion, sometimes not, but you'd never know if what you were saying was controversial otherwise.

[–] Joshme 2 points 4 points (+6|-2) ago

A downvoat is cold and unattached. it won't change my mind, just make me slightly perturbed for a few moments. Know what will make me think twice about my viewpoints though? Someone writing out their differing opinions and their reasoning behind it.
