I know all the arguments for and against them.. and I also know of "alternative solutions" such as simply exercise and a good diet.. but really my life is a mess and I'm considering if they might be able to help me even a little bit..
I was already "diagnosed" with clinical depression like 14 years ago. Never took anything for it, but since then my dad died and now I spend all my time in bed doing nothing.
I want to change myself but I really have no energy to do it.. it'll be difficult to explain the difficulty I have to even wash dishes and cook dinner..
So yea I'm asking in a place that I know is against it for some insight I guess.

Don’t. They make you numb. Once you realize that the depression is still there you fall down further. Was diagnosed with major depressive disorder with melancholic features. Basically life had greyed out and I enjoyed nothing. Before I got really bad I worked out a shit ton and it did help, but happiness was absent. You can’t survive on endorphins alone. The antidepressants and mood stabilizers only made it worse. Two things did work: low dose slow release adderal and magic mushrooms. To get the adderal prescribed off label you have to jump through a ton of hoops. Mushrooms are better imo. Do them with a close friend who has done them before and in a safe, comfortable and CLEAN place. I always felt great for about two months afterwards. Now comes the hard part. After you stabilize your mood work on yourself. My turning point came when I realized that nothing really matters so only the shit I want to care about matters. Fuck everything else. Good luck to you bud.
