I know all the arguments for and against them.. and I also know of "alternative solutions" such as simply exercise and a good diet.. but really my life is a mess and I'm considering if they might be able to help me even a little bit..
I was already "diagnosed" with clinical depression like 14 years ago. Never took anything for it, but since then my dad died and now I spend all my time in bed doing nothing.
I want to change myself but I really have no energy to do it.. it'll be difficult to explain the difficulty I have to even wash dishes and cook dinner..
So yea I'm asking in a place that I know is against it for some insight I guess.

Do what it takes to fix your life, IMO. You are depressed because you are not living the life you were meant to. Drugs will only fix the feeling, not what is actually wrong.
You have to find something to do it for. Many people are unable to make major changes for themselves because they feel worthless. You need to find something bigger and better than yourself. For me it was my children, for others it is God, or maybe even an ideal you once held.
Exercise, sleep, good nutrition etc all help a lot too. I think finding "meaning" is the part that really matters though. What are you living for right now? Why do you get up and try at all? Try to focus on figuring that out, and make yourself into the person you should be.

I have to take care of my mom now my dad passed away. I do have ambitions and responsibilities in life, I just can't seem to act on them. I can't clean the dishes or do the gardening, or anything.. I have lots of "ideas" I want to complete.
Because I actually want to do things that's why I was thinking of starting the anti-depressants.. I need to get things done but I just can't really seem to do it..

I can only say that I once felt the same, and have now come out the other side. Someone close to me ended up on pills, and has let their life pass them by. So I personally am very adverse.
I hope you can find strength, happiness, and peace, inside yourself. I am not religious, but I will certainly give you all the positive thoughts I have.

Good luck. I hope you value your mom because being a carer is a huge sacrifice .
