Implying that Windows is the future? At this point I imagine anyone who still uses Windows to be an out of touch throwback from the past..

So years ago I started playing with Linux and I found that although I prefer many Linux distros over Windows I found that by completely eliminating any one particular OS from your experience makes you less well rounded as time goes on. Like being an Android user and getting confused by IOS.

So I have windows based gaming pcs, a linux netbook for the coffee table, and am OSX laptop for the other coffee table. This effectively has made me a bit more well rounded so I am not lost or surprised when I encounter a computer somewhere for work that isn't Windows or isn' MacOS.

Yeah I've only recently given up on Windows altogether and have always kept it around for my gaming. And unfortunately for Microsoft that well roundness has made me realise that Windows is a slow, limited monstrosity that can only be popular because of successful advertising. But because it is so popular, you are right, it's definitely worthwhile to have knowledge in it.

This perfectly mirrors my experience. It's silly to get too attached to one ecosystem or way of doing things. As much as I like Linux, the perfect OS doesn't exist and some other systems do some things better and lack on some other ways.

It's all about the use cases; at work we use Linux in netcafe style settings and Windows in the office, at home my wife prefers Linux for the desktop because for her it works the best while the kids run Windows 'cause they want all their games to work, with me being in the middle.

*typed on a Linux netbook which I might reinstall as Windows because Victoria II doesn't run on Linux :-(

I have been actually moving to Windows after 10+ years of Linux use as game and hardware support is still better and I actually prefer Win8 on tablets.

That said I still prefer Linux for 'serious' use... all OSes suck anyway.
