My friend is in their 20s and has spent this summer in America in some program that allows them to be here legally, as long as they are sponsored and working. Which is what they had been doing, and still want to do, but the program that sponsors them will only sponsor them if they DON'T work in a big city (I have no idea why).
So they tried to find acceptable work, but finally, out of desperation, they took a (low paying) job in a big city. Now that their sponsor has found out, they are saying they will pull the sponsorship a month early, which sucks, because my friend already paid for their plane ticket home and can't cancel it, nor can they afford a new one.
So it looks like, unless you guys know something we don't, that they will, completely unintentionally, stay here non-sponsored for a month. My basic question is, should they talk to the US government about this? Is that safe? Will it put them on some sort of list they wouldn't otherwise be on? Or, is it better just to wait out the last month and hope nothing comes of it? Thank you!

They aren't breaking the law currently, and I'm not going to help them do that. In fact, I'm only helping to avoid any law being broken at all.

But you know they will become a criminal and the fact you don’t turn them in is a crime.
When the time comes... or just marry him for fucks sake

They should contact their consulate here in the states and ask for advice. If that fails, US Customs and Immigration should be the next contact point.
That being said, your friend broke the terms of their work visa, and is here illegally you fucking nation destroying faggot. Stop helping the enemy.

What kind of program is this? Are you talking about one person or multiple people, you start with "my friend" and continue with "they/them", it's confusing. Where is this foreigner from and why is he or she here? Is this legitimate or some type of scam? You would think with two sponsors they/them would already have had a job lined up before entering our country and not be scrounging for one. The thing about not being able to work in a big city makes no sense since that's where the work is. The country has no need for such a program and I am suspect as to the motives behind the sponsors of this.

Your friend wanted to stay in the city. Im not listening to any other bullshit. They didnt find a small city and the work there "acceptable". I dont really give a fuck about your friend who thought he was better than the rules or the small city work which would have not made him a criminal. He should fuck off back home
