Lol, you've been a member for 1 month; who are you to say, "this wasn't always the case."

I noticed a difference yesterday and today. But since the fattening the front page was constantly getting new content even some times with just 2 upvoats.

You don't have to be on here more than a week to notice the change. But hey at least I'm not going around telling people how they should be using voat like most users who have been here for less time than I are doing.

And let's be honest a month ago no one had a reason to be here.

Edit: ok just checked and you have been here for 14 days and are the exact person I'm talking about in my second paragraph.

I've been on here since May but it hasn't been my "go-to" since recently. I feel like new content has gotten much better over the time I've been here.

That said, I can see the recent "invite only" change causing the rush new content to die down a bit in the past few days.

Maybe content with 2 votes wasn't meant to go in /v/all/hot

Of course things are going to slow down when we're invite only silly. Give @atko and @puttitout a little time, they'll fix things up and get us out of invite only mode eventually. Anyone who'd like to help for Voat could go to https://github.com/voat/voat and work on some things though...

Well, I've been around for a year so I'll step in and say it's sometimes been the case. But it had gotten much better since the last migration wave.

Just an FYI, for some reason I get a 404 error when I try to click on your name.

Agreed! I migrated three months ago and I didn't frequent it daily. But since reddit hit the fan, the amount of content is way more.

I was here before the fattening. Listen OP the front page is only as good as you make it. Get your ass out there and find us some OC. If I can do it a few hours a day on an iPhone holding my napping baby you have no excuse.

Why do this? Maybe he was lurking for a while before making an account? Please don't turn this into a dick measuring contest where your ideas are invalid if your account isn't 2+ months old.

A great way to affect this is to browse new and sort by 'all'. By upvoting and leaving a comment, it can help to drive stories up a bit faster and generate a more diverse front page.

Thanks for this suggestion, I just started sorting my front page to new instead of hot. Brings in new posts a lot quicker!

Yeah, it works great! I think that's one of the biggest reasons the page has been slow to update...the same stuff just keeps getting upvotes and comments and people don't realize there is much more going on.

Thanks :) Please share it! I try to post in these sorts of threads or introductions or when people complain that Voat has no 'content'. We do...people just for get how to find it.

Not only is this a good strategy but going to subs you do not care for and blocking them. This will uncover more on All/New

Seems like they've been tweaking the ranking algorithm. Sometimes front is dominated by new posts with just a handful of points each, other times is all posts with 100+ that are older.

This is what I've noticed as well.

Definitely seems like it. Recently on small subs, posts that don't get any up votes in the first couple hours drop off the front page. So a post with no upvotes won't show up on the first page, but a post with a handful from the day before will.

It sounds like someone with a ton of karma got banned, and now they're trying to make up for it over here.

I wonder if reddit became popular for the high people get off of upvotes. Maybe voat needs an invisible reward system.

I'd be careful about doing away with some kind of ranking system entirely. I know more than a few times the votes have quelled a quarrel. If someone is a douchebag to you for douchey reasons, it can be VERY tempting to argue with that person or defend yourself. However, if the douchebag is sitting at -10 and your post is sitting at +10 it can be MUCH easier to just shrug and move on.

The voting systems do have an impact on the quality of debate and even stems flame wars to some degree, so I don't want to see the numbers disappear. I fear that without it, we're going to see fights drag out and go on & on.

That's why all social media in its current form became popular.

Wouldn't it make more sense to go to the 'new' portion of the front page; thereby seeing every post submitted to the site (as far as I understand). /v/new is a subreddit that just so happens to have the word 'new' in the name.

It's Voat's bad sorting algorithm. Stale posts should drop in rankings faster than they do now. Make a post about it on /v/ideasforvoat

Since this site is based on reddit's open source code, shouldn't reddit's algorithm be available for voat to use?

[–] 6double5321 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

Reddit is written in python, Voat is C#

[–] ezdi 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

It's not. Only the CSS ("how it looks") code is.

I have noticed it too. Probably the effect of the invite only policy. Growth is stunted for now?

A lack of growth = slowing down?

Wait is Voat invite only now? When did this happen?

1

[–] AxiomBreak 1 points 0 points (+1|-1) ago

I doubt it. Most people don't even need accounts. I doubt that the invite only policy would have had time to change anything.

And not to mention the countless "Help me get to 100 ccp" and "obligatory 100 ccp post" bullshit.

Atko needs to raise the ccp threshold to 1000 just so those stupid fucking kids will go back to reddit.

You do realize that the front page is influenced by your views, subscriptions, and blocks right?
