Putt mentioned it a while back. From memory the two primary reasons was that there was very little contribution to the code to begin with and that having access to the code helps anyone with ill intents towards Voat.
There was this one dude named sane goat and he or them or whatever it was literally shut us down because of a problem with how voat interpreted markup code and the big cascaded throughout the entire comments below one comment that had it in it and took a long time to fix that’s probably not why but maybe who knows
Go back to Reddit then? I work in software and I wouldn't want my source code opened up either. Most services won't even tell you the server version because of CVEs.
Well, this is really bad and you can tell whatever bullshit you want to unsuspecting nontechnical users (security through obscurity is not a thing, you know it, I know it, everyone even remotely competent around security knows it) but this smells like shit from 100 miles away.
Opensourcing the code has nothing to do with risks and rewards. It's about transparency, and you know it. Same as for the canary, that hasn't been updated in a while now has it?
And what about the mystery angel investor? Guess still not the right time to tell the product userbase?
I know you and @puttitout have dedicated so much time and energy to this project but this has happened so many times in the same way it's getting boring. I personally have 0 trust in the platform and while this is all fun and giggles and I enjoy the content I have to assume this is a honeypot for all purposes. I encourage everyone here to do the same.

Exact same thing Reddit did, exact same excuses made.
Time to go somewhere else. Maybe getaether.net

/u/Tranix, what /u/C_Corax said. Too much risk, too little reward.
