The issues I have with Gab are purely from a management standpoint. When Gab was in beta, they relied on volunteers to help new comers get accustomed to Gab and the community. Those volunteers had special privileges and access. Then one day, Torba decided they were ready to go live and stripped everything from the volunteers and didn't even give them a "thanks for your help." When the volunteers were wondering what was happening, they got radio silence from Torba, until a few days later, his wife chimed in and said they were no longer needed.
That's was the first interaction I saw with the management of Gab, and that attitude has persisted since. It's the attitude of "Fuck you, I'll do what I want. And I don't have to answer to you."
Also, Torba is his worst PR. He has a horrible time communicating to people. Pointing back to the attitude, when he banned Anglin, it took him days to say why he did it. And even when he did, it was "I did it. Deal with it." and even though many people were upset, he refused to listen. Whether he was justified or not is immaterial.
Torba says he's all for transparency but when he was forced to delete someones post, again, it took days for his reasoning to do so to become known. And it was only made public because the people demanded to know why.
I said it before, and I'll say it again, Torba is the worst when it comes to doing PR. He thinks he's capable of handling public relations, but he's not. Because of his actions and words, I can't help but think that Gab is either controlled opposition or has the worst businessman in the world as CEO. I would love to be proven wrong on this, but I can see how he treated his volunteers, how he tried to avoid addressing his post deletions, how he tries to do gymnastics with the rules to enforce them how he sees fit and selectively.
But, hey, some people like it. I guess it all depends on how you use the platform.
