Freedom of speech. Even if I firmly disagree in your opinion.

Agreed. I don't know where you're from, but in my country (the US), we have court cases and laws that basically say speech is free as long as what you're saying it's inciting "imminent lawless action." In other words, as long as you're not doing things like inciting riots, panic, or acts of terrorism that will occur in the imminent future, you can pretty much say anything you want. I firmly believe in that notion. I don't care if what someone is saying is hurtful, racist, or downright disgusting (I've actually spoken up in favor of the Westboro Baptist Church a few times), you should be allowed to say what you want.

An example would be something that happened at my university. During the 2008 election campaign, a few students were holding a demonstration where they were throwing eggs at a picture of then presidential candidate Barack Obama. The egg was supposed to represent your "nest egg," a term for an initial amount of money used to start a new life (the protest was against his economic policies), so throwing it at a picture of him symbolized that his policies would supposedly be harmful to young people just starting out (I don't know if this is true or not, but for the sake of the argument, I don't care). The whole school was in an uproar. They saw the event as hateful, saying it could be construed as a racist protest. Hundreds of students were clamoring for the school to shut down the event. I decided to check it out. What I found were a bunch of butthurt kids wanting to censor free speech on a college campus (I know, right?). I decided to take part in the event, throwing the egg in the name of free speech, and even confronting a few students who told me they believed free speech should be censored if it was hurtful or even perceived as being racist regardless of the truth. After throwing my egg, I was booed by a small crowd and even received a flyer from one of them with info about how it's bad to hurt people's feelings. I felt really proud of myself that day.

The day after the protests, a bunch of students held a "free speech day" where students could recite poetry, sing, dance, and do anything else as long as it was safe, unhurtful speech. Irony, anyone?

And yet they could have done it to a picture of Romney without problem, because he ISNT black. Truly stupid. Everyone get offended at anything nowadays.

I have to disagree on this one. I think having a certain moral objectivity that values service-to-others over service-to-self is something that should trump what we call freedom of speech.

I imagine there are many scenarios that you would want a person to shut there mouth. Take for example all the mis-information that is spread in the media and schools; speech that is harmful to the well being of others by shaping their world-view at an impressionable time in their lives using lies and deceit.

If people had a clear universally acknowledged moral standard they were adhering to, a standard based on the differences of service-to-self and service-to-others, we wouldn't bicker so endlessly about our precious rights and wrongs.

I mean if someone is lying about you and starting false rumors you still sue his ass. But I'm not gonna stop a neo-nazi parade because I disagree. And yeah as much as I hate feminazi they still have the right to say what they want .

Cannabis should be legal. It is far less harmful than alcohol or tobacco.

What do you believe in so much that you would actually 'die' defending that believe.

You'd die for some dank weed?

I'd die for legalization if need be.

But does that mean it isn't harmful? It can cause some brain damage, especially in younger people, but also in adults. In addition, (just like smoking I might add), it can have the same effects on people who are merely around them, exposed to it second hand, through no fault of their own. In private I could certainly see the argument for it (with restrictions), but in public? That's not okay. And before I'm asked, yes I also believe smoking in public should be outlawed.

People should be able to live their lives as they wish, as long as it doesn't affect other people.

With a slight correction I'll agree:

People should be able to live their lives as they wish, as long as it doesn't harm other sentient beings.

What about animal abusers?

I'd agree with that statement, but the line is very vague. When it affects other people? We always affect other people. Does he mean negative? It's not always so clear. Sometimes you can think something is good and then it ruins your life. It's all a big grey area.

I'd think animals would count as affecting things, though.

Humanity will not survive in a society where we are taught to be competitive over resources that are abundant enough to serve us all equally. My generation will be the last if we continue to harvest our planet of life for an old and outdated monetary system

I've been a follower of the Venus project since '09, so i am heavily influenced by them as i agree with most everything they suggest. But it goes beyond them, the world we live in as is, cannot survive. We'll be lucky to get another 50 years out of this shit
