There are things that don't get taxed and create credits and deductions. Do it right and the government owes you no matter how you set up your taxes at the beginning of the year.

This is not correct. If you're consistently getting money back, you can have less withheld from your income. Therefore, you are loaning the government money with no interest.

...yep, had to send extra money to the tax man this year (both federal and state); for one thing I did configure payroll deductions just about right, but I did end up paying more taxes this year than the last overall.
Of course not!!! That's all tax free, as is my synagogue. I'm not even factoring in all of my offshore accounts and the ones I have in Switzerland haha shaloms
It is just propaganda. Average people got a lower tax bill and extremely wealthy people pay a bit more.
Listen to the dems and you would believe that the richest among us got s break that we are paying for. Of course the only people that would believe it don’t pay so they don’t know.

Middle class got a decent break, welfare nigs didn't because any income they had on the books is less than the deductions and credits they were already taking. Typical mainstream media FUD. This works particularly well on working class whites who did benefit from the tax break because it triggers a feeling of guilt for "average Americans" who did not (according to the lying MSM).

If you're getting a return, you're doing it wrong all year. Loaning the government your money, interest free.

For 99% of the population, the answer to this question is entirely related to how you have configured your payroll deductions.

I'm getting $10K back. Pretty sure I didn't say "please take an additional $400 out each paycheck."

Hot damn. I got $1K back, but I'm a single dude with no credits nor deductions.

Everyone did except those with high state taxes like California.

I'm in Commiefornia, my paychecks went up about $100. Not entirely excited to do my taxes as I'm sure I'm going to owe.

This happened to me.
My paycheck is bigger, and I had the largest refund I’ve ever had.
I’m honestly pissed because now I have to recalculate my withholdings.
