This is partly why I love Valve for making their SteamOS Linux based. It's going to drastically increase Linux support for popular gaming. I'll happily dump Windows when Linux becomes a viable alternative for gaming.

Sounds like a nice idea, we'll have to see in another 10-15 years when it comes out, and see if it will even be a replacement option for Windows or only run well on specific boards and cards. (Something tells me second party and/or Origin games and/or pirated games will be off-limits in SteamOS, so Windows will still have that market too.)

from the steamOS page I got the feeling that the operating system was designed mainly for living room use, not for desktop. or at least not the only OS you have on your desktop. I have used Linux quite a bit, but I am still not sure if I'm able to run everything I want on it.
