This might be an unpopular opinion, but if Voat continues to grow it is inevitable. People forget that other place started out much like here. There isn't much we can do to stop it other than discourage migration to Voat, which is an unrealistic, selfish solution.

When people start waving money at you, your moral convictions can falter. I fancy myself a supporter of free speech over profits. But if I was able to take nothing and turn it into a thriving community with a high price tag, I can't even pretend like I wouldn't have done the exact same thing. It's easy to criticize when you're the consumer.

Make it absolutely clear regarding where they stand on free speech. Don't just change things without discussing it with users first. Don't be a dick.

Well... knothing made it "absolutely clear" in that interview that they created reddit to be a "bastion of free speech". But then spez did a complete 180 on that statement yesterday. So I think we all know that VOAT is for free speech it's just a question of how long they can maintain it.

I came to post this. Once the investment bankers get involved it's all downhill from there.

One of the main things is to try and avoid the power moderator system that's active on reddit where some users have moderation powers in like 600 subreddits those self righteous fucks think their gods gift to reddit the worst was the bastards over at /r/leagueoflegends. Maybe we can have some sort of user input into the moderator process.

When I first checked out voat I noticed that you can only mod 10 subs. I think this is a really good idea.

I have created this to help combat the idea of power hungry mods: /v/thesystem
I'd love to get it implemented into the entire site but it needs a lot of support.

I think one of the biggest issues was the control certain mods had over subreddits without the ability to limit a mod who would abuse the power. That's why I came up with The System.
I'd love to see this implemented into the entire site one day. If anyone has any feedback let me know.

If it gets to be the size of reddit that is exactly what will happen. Maybe institute a change to the comment section where it is much harder to downvote something out of view. Make the default sorting of the comments by time posted as well so as all opinions are able to be seen so the trolls get downvoted and controversial opinions get seen.
