Most people aren't shocked by 'that word'. They just think the people who use that word are ignorant racists. Nobody gives a shit. They give a shit when you start to intrude on them by claiming everything _______ is bad.

(insert fat/blacks/jews/illuminati/gay where _______ )

Oh, forgot to finish.

I don't care if there's /v/coontown. Just stay in there, and don't bring it into the other subverses.

Fair enough. And as on Reddit, we do keep it in our own place. That is why I jokingly refer to CoonTown as a 'gated community'. We have a pool, a putting green, a pub and everything we need right there in our sub. We don't venture out.

Thank you for support free speech, even if you dislike the speech. I'd give you gold but this is Voat so all I can give you is this photo of black and white goats living in harmony:

You may not like it but they have the same right to visit /v/news or another verse as anyone does.

Yes and no. Look at your username. I'm sure that's just a moniker you picked up "somewhere along the way". I think most of you guys push boundaries. That's kind of okay, I guess, but I don't know where voat.co's servers are housed or the laws to which they are subject. It runs the risk of "ruining it for everyone". I don't think voat.co is American. Content can vary by country.

Other than that, I don't give a fuck. Don't stalk people, etc... in fact, the "moderately" offensive name of "CoonTown" let's people know what they're getting into. Unlike /r/pushing. I have little sympathy when someone gets butthurt about what was said on Stormfront. I also have little sympathy with people being dicks and then acting like victims. No blood, no foul mostly. That said, I'd go look at something on an "objectionable" forum if someone said it was funny -- but I probably wouldn't sub. And I certainly wouldn't whine about the existence of the forum.

I would support the ban of a user being a dick to people who weren't trying to interact in that way. There's two people in that interaction. Authorities get to pick who has the shittier experience. I tend to side with the instigator.

They don't keep it in their own place over there, and you folks won't over here either. Nobody elected you to speak for the whole racist community, so you can't really say that a group, with an agenda of spreading hate, isn't going to spread hate.

If you think they are going to keep to their own subs, ask yourself what sub this thread is in.

And what does banning them achieve, anyway? It's not like they'll stop being racists. They'll just go somewhere where we won't see them.

But as it stands, they're already somewhere where I won't see them.

My hope for Voat is that it remains an aggregate of the whole internet that each of us can curate to suit our tastes. And while the internet can be a dark and disgusting place, it's also a place where government can be scrutinized, where we can call "bullshit" on the media, and where we can openly discuss taboo topics from atheism to BDSM with like-minded people.

It sucks that we have to defend places like coontown, just as it sucks that lawyers have to defend school shooters in court. But despite what the Reddit Admins say, this view of free speech is the only one that ensures open and honest discussion.

Exactly. I won't be visiting there myself, but as long as it continues to exist I'll have some measure of confidence that Voat's owners are upholding its founding principles of free expression within legal boundaries. (Assuming such conversation is legal in Switzerland.)

This, and very well put sir!

If Voat tries to rationalize banning them we should all leave.

There is laws too, voat already moved servers once, so maybe somewhat less of a concern. Maybe these community's won't take too much cat wrangling, to use a polite term. It's a tough, and not easy question for admins, as these as these community's might represent a lot of additional effort for negative net value. Hopefully they can find a way of making things work.

It's like having that cousin that likes to break your toys over, he's family but....ha-ha.

'Freedom of speech' isn't worth a damn unless you support the freedom of all speech, even that which you personally disagree with.

Also, asking "how does voat feel about X" is a nonsensical question. There are a lot of people here and we all see the world in different ways. I imagine a few of us think it's great, a lot of us don't care, and a few of us think it's awful.

Look, I'm half black half white. I think racists are the scum of the earth. I think it's stupid for someone to dislike people due to something they have no control over e.g their skin color. However, as a citizen of this great country and a firm supporter of free speech I don't have a problem with it. I just won't go to that subverse and will probably block it along with anybody who frequents that sub. And just keep your ignorant views to your ignorant sub. Don't let it leak to other parts of this website.

I just figured I should point out that most users on /r/CoonTown don't dislike black people because of their skin color. They dislike them because of the overwhelming violence, crime, criminal worship, homophobia and misogyny within their communities.

Criminal worship? I live in a black family, in a predominantly black community and I've never seen any criminal worship. There isn't even any crime in my neighborhood. BUT, I'm sure coontown members would still find a reason to not like my family/community.

Are you citizen of the USA or Switzerland? Because "this country" implies Switzerland on this site.

America. I was saying "this country" because of the whole first amendment argument that people like to bring up when trying to promote their hateful subs. My apologies though. I wasn't aware voat was a sweden-based site.

I'm okay with it. It is their right to create an area of free speech, even if we might not agree with said content.

It isn't that simple, though. As I commented a few days ago, simply not going to their subreddit didn't keep you from seeing their hate everywhere else on reddit. Their agenda isn't to find a corner to stick to, it's to infiltrate and spread their message, hoping it catches on. On reddit and many other sites, there are threads where racist planning sessions take place, specific articles in other areas of the sites are linked to and the participants are told to infiltrate the discussions. It regularly happens in places like reddit's /r/news. They spam racist articles and regular ones that fit their agenda, hoping that people constantly seeing nothing but negative articles about certain types of people will develop racists feelings. They brigade threads, upvoting each other and downvoting dissent to make it look like their views are more mainstream. Then they recruit and radicalize those folks that have given in to their covert brainwashing. Their M.O. is to swerve the conversation if they can't outright control it. The're here to proselytize using blatant and subtle messaging. They're here to spread hate and get others to hate along with them, just like they do everywhere else.

They can do all that (submitting racist posts and comments etc) with or without a sub though.

hey spam racist articles and regular ones that fit their agenda, hoping that people constantly seeing nothing but negative articles about certain types of people will develop racists feelings.

You know... you're on to something. I'm on several conspiracy forums. I expect a certain amount of antisemitism. Fine. But there has been a coordinated drift to promote "why won't the media say what race the assailant was?", etc.

Simple, distribute warnings or potentially bans to users who violate rules by linking to the subverse. Leave those alone who adhear to rules. Since your so against freedom of speech maybe you should go back to reddit.

You mentioned blocking, do you know if it is possible to block a subverse from showing up on a logged in users /v/all page?

While I don't like hateful racists, I do like freedom of speech.... And even hateful racists should have the "right" to spew their beliefs. I'm new here, but have enjoyed years of socializing online and even taken part in some great discussions with people of varying outlooks. I would welcome these people here and would hope that I wouldn't have to see them unless I went into their domain :)

It doesn't bother me. You know why? BECAUSE I'M NOT SUBSCRIBED.

Seriously. Those dummies on reddit are so stupid. Why do they even care what's going on in the other subs? You're not subscribed, so just forget about it. It's like they don't even want other people to have their own ideas and thoughts about life. They're the type of people who complain about seeing a nipple on TV, which was shown by accident.

[–] PorchMonkey [S] 0 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago

That is how I feel. The other subs they complain about.. the dead body stuff, the weird porn stuff... I don't care. I know that I do not want to see such things so I do not go to the place where such things are seen.

Thank you for possessing logic.
