Reddit is a bastion of hypocrisy. Bacon is a bastion of delicious. How'd I do?

You'd need to make that "deliciousness". If you really wanted to use "delicious" would be "is a delicious bastion", but then you're really talking about the fortification and implying it's delicious. Unless you're writing about some sort of bacon based defense against artillery fire, it's probably not the phrase you want.

Bacon is not a bastion of deliciousness; it is an example of a delicious thing. Bacon doesn't provide a safe haven for deliciousness, which comes to bacon from outside and takes root within it. Bacon is delicious.

Reddit is a bastion of hypocrisy...perhaps. At least it can be said that hypocrisy is something that can find a home in Reddit (unlike deliciousness in bacon, which is a property that bacon either has or lacks).

A bastion can be thought of like a fortress or a safe haven. A place that can protect something and let it grow or thrive, despite attack from the outside.

A bastion was a form of fortification, so technically a part of a castle, but more metaphorically a place where something is protected.

Sentences

  • The raised pentagonal concrete platform around the base of the tower was literally the bastion protecting the tower from orcs, as archers could stand there and fire down on them as they approached preventing the orcs from reaching the tower itself.
  • The ring of bunkers was figuratively the last bastion of protection for the Terran base as it would represent the final line of defense if the zergling hoard breached the line of marines in front of the base.
  • Reddit is not a bastion of free speech because you can be censored for posting unpopular or controversial ideas that might offend someone or disagree with a sponsored agenda.

You are a bastion of human to human interactions. I dig that you reached out to actual humans for an answer to a question, instead of going to simple search route.

Haha. Human interaction rocks. I actually did use the search route, but still found it confusing/amusing. So I thought I'd start a discussion.

Kudos! That seems like a good way to really get the word down. Honeslty, I searched it to before I gave a response. I'm really mostly familiar with the word in the context of that "bastion of free speech" phrase. I think I'm going to start to try using it in other ways!

A "bastion" is a person who is too lazy to use a dictionary to look up the meaning of a word.
