Are people in open relationships common potential FWBs? I'm not sure I'd be interested in being with someone who's attached (would have to think about it). Would I be severely limiting my options if I excluded that pool of people?

Yes. Why would it matter if they are attached? You don't want a relationship, they won't leave the SO for you, it's a perfect situation.

It would matter because I'd worry someone was cheating and that there could end up being an angry spouse to deal with. Even if the spouse started off cool with it, I'd be concerned that they'd be upset with the friend part of FWBs since I don't just want sex. I'd like to go hiking, ride bikes, grab a bite, and other friend stuff too.

It would be simpler if there was no one else involved but I can see an upside too: they won't find someone to settle down with and ditch you. Like I said, I'd have to think about it.
