Voat allows me anonymity. If friends came into play, things will turn into Facebook; all we would see is everyone's highlight reel. Not their true selves.

I don't think a highlight reel would be a good idea. But I do think just a friends list, with some basic features would be neat.

People would be able to look at your posts. That will definitely affect what they choose to put online.
We came to Voat because it promised us freedom in what we could post. A friends list would damage that freedom.

Why the hell would you want to turn Voat into the purile, boring turd that is facebook?

Cannot agree more!

I like the native ability on reddit to highlight people by marking them as a friend. I use it to mark people who I've noticed consistently make interesting comments, so that I see more of their comments in comment-heavy submissions.
I don't want actual "social" features.

Yeah. There were times I bumped into interesting people on the other board and I would tag them as a "friend" to keep tabs on them and see what they were up to. One guy I remember was from Venezuela and it was interesting to read his opinion on what was going on over there.

Obviously the majority will decide whether to add any friends lists/groups/circles here. My lonely opinion is as follows: the reason I came originally to Reddit was to have interesting discussions and hear opinions of others without any identifiers, filters, cliques (I don't care what gender, color, age, profession your are, just what your brain has to offer). When Reddit started to feel more like FB with the same "group think" I drifted here, and so far am quite happy.
Adding "let's be friends" feature in any form is distracting. We are all adults here, if we want to be friends beyond any given discussion in the comments I am sure we can all find a way.

Not a bad idea but its a bad idea for Voat IMO.

I feel like it could be done well, but it could also be done horrible and just be an issue.

The thing is I don't want people to see I'm online or be pressured to friend anyone. I absolutely hate when services (looking at you battle.net) don't let you remain unseen to others.
I think friend lists have their place but it just does not mesh with Voat very well at all.

I've said it before, so I'll say it again, in case this gets passed around among devs:
No! Dear lord, don't do it! So much of social media is driven by narcissism. Can we please, please, please just enjoy our transitory interactions without worrying why /u/ScroteCollector is no longer interested in our Game of Throne theories, only to find /user/ScoteCollector is all butthurt that we announced that we prefer pie to cake in /v/cakeisforfaggots, which /u/ScroteCollector doesn't even read and only found by following us? Most of the joy of /4chan was that we were ALL anon. Part of the joy of Reddit was that we learned we liked people we didn't know. The suck of FaceBook is that we see that our IRL friends are crappy people who invade our on-line existence. I like being transitory. I like "identifying" by subverses. I've already noticed some recurring interesting posters. I'll just go look at /u/ScroteCollector/comments if I'm an obsessive shitstalker. Let's not enable this crap. Please?

A page to view a list of recent comments from all your friends combined.
[–] Renoco [S] ago
That would interesting, or recently upvoted by just friends.

Yea ... that would be bad.

RES-style user tagging is as far as I'd want it to go.

I would like the ability to keep track of the people I think post cool or insightful things without having to bookmark them. Reddit's friends page was nice for that - if a little bit under-equipped in terms of features.
