When I lived in Central Montana in the 1970s I was surrounded by Sovereign Citizen types.

I had friends that were sending their marriage licenses back to the court house, cutting up their driver licenses... etc.

They all seemed to quote Mark Skousen and Irwin Schiff quite a bit.

And like someone said, posse comiatus was a big subject.

Yeah, these types have always kind of been around. But, 1970s I don't think they went by this term. Probably just yahoos that were pissed at the government. That sentiment goes everywhere all of the time.

Mark Skousen - CIA. Could see his message just being pushed. But, it seems more like a hands off type thing. Like he didn't want to be associated with them, but liked the sales.

Irwin Schiff - Jew, seriously scammer being pushed by jewish media to undermine the US is far from being outside of today's pattern.

Probably just yahoos that were pissed at the government.

It was more organized than that, there were "Tax Seminars" held in places like Great Falls, Havre, Lewistown, etc, where this sort of political belief was promoted, books sold, pretty soon people were having meetings in homes to learn about their "Natural Rights"

Now, don't get me wrong, I believe in natural rights, it's just this was a kind of perverted teaching where there was no degree of responsibility for anyone.

Did pull this out. https://popiplaw.wordpress.com/2017/02/16/sovereign-citizens-beyond-thunderdome/ >> which has a link to >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_%28organization%29

Basically they claim that posse comitatus (around from 1969) was the origin of sovereign citizens, and their tactics are familiar to what has been viewed on youtube. But, it seems to be more of a merging, not origination as claimed by the first article.

Just found the person making the earliest claim out of their docs that Howard Freeman had discovered the country was broke in 1938. Probably a pseudonym as I wouldn't want to be easy to track down after some idiot got ran through jail for following the advise here.

Autism. Autism is the origin of the sovereign citizen movement.
