Hi there,

I appreciate the concern, and I agree that things like this should be paid attention to. To be honest, I'm not sure why I mod so many big subverses, it just sort of happened. I applied to /v/politics about a week ago because I'm on that sub 24/7 and read almost all the links that get posted there anyways, so I thought it might make sense to apply. I also did/am doing the CSS for many of these subs, and is a part of the reason I was invited initially. As for the others, I am friends with the mods there and they happened to invite me to help out. An example of this is /v/iama, where @Clayton reached out to me and asked me to help out.

I have taken almost no mod actions on all of these subs, and plan to keep them open and free. I modded absolutely nothing on reddit and rarely commented. If people are concerned about me being a "power mod", I will happily step down on some of these subverses, but I would like to think I am doing a good job so far.

To add to this, powermods are practically impossible on Voat. Voat has a limit of only allowing 10 subs to be modded my each account. I am personally modding 9 subs and will be at my limit before long. I brought /u/Oaken on to /v/iama a few days ago, we are anticipating an important AMA down the road and I am trying to bring the mod team up to par to be able to handle trolls that might want to troll guests. I have stated before that if any of my mods (including /u/Oaken) are abusing their authority that I would want someone to tell me about it so I can take action.

The 10 sub limit is a very smart policy. I love voat more and more every day. :)

Wow thanks for responding! I came in expecting to see conspiracy theories and whining about "power mods" and see a full discussion with direct answers to questions. Holy hell I love Voat! The 10 sub limit is fantastic!

No worries! You had the voat's best interest at heart, which is all that matters.

I ran out of upgoats for today, so I'll tell you that I really like this answer.

Thanks for your contributions to the Voat community! You are the hero we need, but not deserve.

As long as he is not a crazy, social justice warrior mod, I am fine with that.

It doesn't really seem that questionable. Just for the record.

Luckily that is about all he can moderate.

They can only mod 5 more subs, maximum, unlike that other place where some mods were on 100s of mod teams.

Maybe it's someone who has come over from Reddit who already has a trusted relationship with the mods on those subs. @Atko doesn't name mods for subs.

This sounds a bit witch hunty. If we agree that a maximum of 10 subs to moderate by 1 person is fine, why are we getting upset if someone mods 5?

Can we not have powermods here? That shit ruined multiple social media sites.

Let it be said that I don't mind mods that subscribe to left wing politics. The important thing is that freedom of speech is respected. I wouldn't censor left wing sympathizers as long as they respect me and my right to say what I want to say.

What did oaken do exactly?

I think that because this site is so young (relatively) and new submissions are quite low, there's not much of a problem with one person handling moderating for many subverses. The flow of content through some of the newer subverses is very slow and it's likely they're in place as a stand-in while the community grows and other people are needed.
