If you don't like onions, celery, or bell pepper, then you don't like good food.

[–] watitdew [S] 1 points 5 points (+6|-1) ago

This guy fucks.

[–] AndrewBlazeIt 1 points 2 points (+3|-1) ago

I mean, not ALL the time.

[–] aria_taint 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

and garlic

[–] GreenSmoke 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

Back when i used to bother trying dating before i realized all the women within 500 miles of me are vapid lying manipulative whores with toddler minds, i would take them to places like a sushi and grill, or nice mexican restaurants, and almost always these stupid cunts would order fuckin chicken fingers.... like a god damned spoiled toddler too afraid to even entertain the idea of eating something new

[–] Skyrock 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

When I go to an ethnic restaurant, I will of course prefer their special dishes over everything else, and try for something new if there is something to entice me. I would never have discovered octopus, calamari and swordfish if I had never tried something new (all three of which I now fucking love, by the way). And I also would never have learned that tofu can actually be fucking tasty if you cook it in the traditional Asian way for its own qualities, rather than to turn it into sorry ersatz meat.

[–] GreenSmoke 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Theres nothing on this earth i won't try at least once (EXCEPT for african style prepared foods, those ignorant fucks dont even rinse the shit out of intestines before cooking them) My favorite foods are octopussys, and calamari. Tofu is actually damn good prepared right. I didnt like swordfish when i had it, but i would definitely try again.

Consider this. A willingness to try food is an open mind to new ideas. Unwillingness is fear and stupidity. Id wager picky eaters are emotionally guided voters. How many sheltered democrats eat rocky mountain oysters? How many gun nut hunters do?

[–] watitdew [S] 1 points 0 points (+1|-1) ago

FWIW if you eat swordfish more than once or twice a year you have exceeded the recommended mercury intake.

I mean it's delicious but I never order it for this reason. It's also commonly pretty wormy.

[–] Wharleas 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

How do they not get fat from eating that all the time?

[–] GreenSmoke 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

You can eat literally anything you want and not get fat, just don't eat so much that you get fat. And to my knowledge they are all fat now. Almost everyone in my area is fat now actually. Im definitely in the tiny majority of not fat fucks for the area

[–] watitdew [S] 1 points 0 points (+1|-1) ago

Yeah that's a deal breaker.

I had some tendies last year but it was National Chicken Tenders day and I was being ironic.

[–] GreenSmoke 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Right, dint mistake me, i love chicken fingers, shits tasty as fuck. And i can make them at home in like 10 fuckin minutes for like 2 fuckin dollars. People who are "picky" but have never even attempted to try anything new really piss me off

[–] Yousillygoose 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

I hatE mushrooms, the texture, its fungus. so, so grody

[–] watitdew [S] 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago  (edited ago)

A lot of places don't cook them right. You need a hard sear on them much like a steak and to cook out a good bit of the water to concentrate the flavor and create new flavor compounds from carmelization. @HST

[–] HST 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

The only time i've enjoyed mushrooms is when they were seared as shit (over a tasty burger)

And I totally forgot until I read your comment. Thx OP will experiment

[–] Yousillygoose 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Well i was trying to be annoying, ill have to try experimenting with them myself. im with ya i never ask for modificiations being picky seems womanly to me.

[–] Mustard_of_puppets 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

I'm fairly picky, because I'm a healthy eater and I'm diabetic so eating out is a hassle. My solution is I just don't eat out. I make my own food.

[–] watitdew [S] 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Save a lot of money that way as well. Also somewhat confirms my suspicion that the biggest pains in my ass are people who burn water.

[–] Doomking_Grimlock 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Gone hungry too many times to be picky. I do draw a hard line at eating bugs: crickets, grasshoppers, spiders, the insects...I don't care how much protein they have, I'm not interested.

But yeah, once you've gone a couple of days without substantial food you learn to stop turning your nose up at a hot meal, and I've found there's very little in this world that can't be choked down with substantial amounts of hot sauce added.

[–] watitdew [S] 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Along with live monkey brains, spiders are another strong line in the sand of what I won't eat. Wrt other insects you mentioned, you eat shrimp rite? You ever had shrimp with the head and shell on? Shit's dank. It's where all the flavor is.

[–] Doomking_Grimlock 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Weirdly enough, I don't have any problem at all with shrimp, crawdads, crabs, and lobsters. I will eat those bad boys all day long, with a big grin on my face and a tankard of beer at my table. I always kind of assumed "brains" of any sort would never be an actual offering, so I never considered them, but no, I'd probably pass on brains if there were other, more appetizing options about. If that's all there is to eat, however, well, fuck, I guess I'll try the brains. I ain't gonna starve just because I was squeamish. I mean, shit, if I was starving to death, YES, I WOULD eat bugs rather than die, it's just not something you really think about living in the first world.

Backtracking to your original question though, I don't believe I've ever had shrimp with the heads and shell on. I usually shuck off the shell before cooking (though I'm given to understand you can make a great broth with the shells), and having shrimp with the head on has never really been a thing. Given that I live in a landlocked state hundreds of miles from the nearest ocean, I'm not surprised by this, but since it's never come up, I don't have an answer. I suppose I'd try it, since I see a lot of Asian cultures eat the shrimp whole. Still, terrestrial insects are a hard no for me. I'll pass until I can kill a bird or a squirrel or something like that.

[–] Beachstyle8 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

If I was picky I would have never experienced unique tastes and textures. Maybe people are just as much "stubborn" and set in their ways as they are "picky".

[–] watitdew [S] 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

The guy who coined the phrase 'the customer is always right' died penniless fwiw.

[–] Beachstyle8 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Ha. If I owned a restaurant I would have no issues firing customers. I certainly would consider their concerns and detemine if it was legitamate first.

[–] Reddit_traitor 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago  (edited ago)

not picky but i hate cilantro. it kills the whole dish for me if a little bit is even on it. it tastes like grassy soap. I'll try to ask for them to no put it on if it's possible otherwise i'll order something i know doesn't come with that on it.

also hate pepperoni but if it's the only pizza avail i'll just pick them off the best i can and and add them to rest of the pizza. pepperoni gives me really bad heartburn

[–] watitdew [S] 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

Yeah the cilantro thing is legit. The dish soap experience is genetic and about 10% of population. I also don't care for pepperoni on pizza but if it's free and I'm hungry, fine

[–] Skyrock 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Big pepperonis are also easy to spot, easy to take off and to share with someone else (or put to the side). And I can understand that some people don't want them, they can easily dominate a slice if they are hot enough.

[–] Reddit_traitor 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

when i order pizza i make sure to not have it on it but like you said if someone else is paying i'll just pick it off or suffer. then eat a bunch of tums or something.

[–] Inara__Serra 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

I'm not particularly fond of bell peppers.

[–] watitdew [S] 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Would you cry if they showed up in your stirfry?

[–] Inara__Serra 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

They always do. I just put them to the side or my fiancee eats them. He doesn't like the water chestnuts and I eat his. It all works out.
