sooooo i have this discussion with friends on occassion... i say that im not scared of heights, but that im scared of falling to my death. and i only really ever feel that when im up high and i look down... is there a difference?
Death, because the idea of simply not being alive itself is terrifying to me. Including the deaths of people I know. I get panicky just thinking about it.
Also, failure and letting the ones I love down. So both very common fears.
Heights. When I'm near the edge of any 20+ ft drop I get intense feelings of being top-heavy and off balance, as if accidentally stumbling off and falling is unavoidable. I have recurring nightmares involving being on the top of skyscrapers, having to cross thin walkways with no sort of railing; those are just the worst.
Other than normal stuff like home invasions, because that's mundane, I have to admit that I am horrified by aliens. Only the typical 'greys' with the teardrop heads and big eyes do it to me -- I don't even believe that they exist, and yet every time I see a picture or video of one it fills me with dread. I have no idea why, so it must be some kind of subconscious reaction to the way they are portrayed that does it for me.

Failure, a pretty common fear. Also going outside at night really freaks me out sometimes.

Dying homeless and alone, for obvious reason.

Drowning or being burned alive. I'm not worried about death but I would hate for either of those things to be the last thing I experience ever.
