I wanted to get hold of a username I'm very passionate about.

I thought of starting dozens of voat accounts, with usernames that are most likely to be popular, and then waiting a year or two, and selling the passwords off to the highest bidders. But then I thought, nah fuck that. I'm not that evil. Or am I?

I'm pretty sure /u/dickbutt is taken.

the impression of censorship

Yes. Censorship on the way to cooperate monetization.

This, very much. I'm far from being willing to jump ship for good, there are way too many things on reddit that still have value to me. I'd stay on reddit for good if they got their act together.

I'm not holding my breath, however. Realistically, I will probably move to voat for good in the long run.

Censorship + commercialization

[–] zombieman 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

This. I do not want my news site to be biased by any corporation.

And I like the conversation at Voat better. It seems to be substantial and less circle jerky.

meh...

Any sufficiently large community, whether you believe so or not, needs to commercialize and censor. That sustains a family or four cannot sustain a city of 100,000. Commercialization is inevitable for any successful project. Unfortunately.

Censorship too, to a certain extent. Maybe reddit handled it poorly, ok they definitely handled it poorly, but when things get out of hand, people need to step in and shut some things down. Child porn isn't on reddit or 4chan anymore, nobody complains about that.
Obviously that's an extreme example, but any sufficiently large community needs some form of, at the very least, mild, censorship.

Yes but until Voat gets there, I'll happily keep using it. I'm sure by that point a new site will emerge.

I didn't.

Sometimes I eat bacon, sometimes I have eggs instead. Sometimes together.

That's the best reply for what I was thinking too. I haven't left Reddit but I wanted another option besides Reddit.

Bacon and eggs are best toogether.

I didn't know there was an alternative to reddit. The victoria firing, the fake apology and the blackout 2015 subreddit all lead to me switching. Also, the constant posts about voat on reddit and voat crashing just made me more curious.

I would have left reddit 2 years ago if I knew voat existed . . . because they blocked reddit at work. I've been wasting my time on imgur since then!!!!

You could say we're all in the same voat. :D

This is pretty much my reasoning. I made my account when FPH was nuked, but didn't stay. The recent events pushed me over the edge.

I don't hate fat people, the censorship is what made me mad.

Not a fan of Ellen Pao's business decisions or the things she has said.

Honestly, I was tired of getting downvoted because of not having the popular opinion. I wanted to start discussions and many people would just tell me thats stupid, you're wrong, etc. I'm fine with being wrong, but only if people explain why they think im wrong. Also I felt that Reddit became too large for me.

Because the evidence suggesting that Pao is a luddite psycho is overwhelming.

EDIT: I've read /u/yishan's post exonerating Ellen Pao and putting the blame on Ohanian. I'd like to acknowledge that and say that I take back my attack on her.

Someone tried to convince me that a previous statement that PAO needed IT to show her how to use her phone was impossible because "Pao had an Ivy League engineering degree" and thus would not have needed help setting it up.

Yes... she has an Ivy League undergraduate engineering degree... in electrical engineering... from over 20 years ago in the early 90s, that means she must be a technology wizard.

That was the key indicator for me that Reddit is no longer the place for me... these people are weird and pathetic (but not in a good way... looking at you 4chan). I get the impression that Reddit really has become more populated by SJWs and really really entitled idiots.

I just don't need that kind of brain damage in my life, those are people I would love to just punch in the face, kind of the reason I would never move back to Silicon Valley.
