People should have the right to display whatever they please on their own property (including their person). Simple as that. If I can display a pride flag, they display their flag of ignorance.

The government isnt the people. If a dude wants to display that flag, its his right. But lets face history. To those saying it represent the fight for states' rights, the rights we are talking about is freaking slavery. It actually isnt a right... So yeah, that flag, and a nazi flag, are pretty much the same. Freedom of speech and all that, sure. But no slavery, no genocide, no shitty things like that. Those arent rights.

I agree that the government should not. Many are now calling for the ban of the flag everywhere, though. If I want a confederate or nazi flag, I should be able to have one. The morality doesn't matter.

No it was the right for states to make their own rules and laws. The loss of that is why currently states can legalize marijuana, but you can still be raided as a dispensary and arrested as a citizen by a federal agent.

Slavery is unconstitutional because it goes against 'all men are created equal' and 'the pursuit of happiness'. It needed to go. I will agree it doesn't need to be on government buildings, but this whole thing came about because people want to blame the flag for causing some kid to kill people in a church. He's an asshole - the world is full of them. To say a symbol caused him to be an asshole is ridiculous. To attach so much power to a symbol is ridiculous. When did we start living the in Harry Potter Universe? With this over-sympathy for people who want the flag removed from government buildings it is turning into 'The Flag That Shall Not Be Named' as everyone tries to wipe it from history.

I have no problem with people flying the flag on their own property but the government should take it down if it is truly that big of an issue.

However, I think it's gone completely overboard at this point. I see no reason to pull it from the shelves of all these stores. Though, it must be nice for the small flag making companies and what I assume will be a pretty big surge in sales.

The only real issue I have a problem with is they started pulling the flag from Gettysburg. The only place the "Confederate flag" was even flown was on the battlefield. that is downright stupid to me.

It makes sense to not want it flown on government land. This hysteria over it is fucking retarded though. Leave the Dukes of Hazzard alone for christs sake.

Just as many injustices were performed under the British flag.

And the American flag.

Anyone remember when Agent Orange was used on the Vietnamese?

Let's ban the American flag, you guys! It represents oppression!

In my opinion, I feel like we shouldn't even be having this discussion. It's a symbol of treachery and should've been outlawed at the end of the civil war.

Outlawing it is silly as shit.

I agree that it's a detestable symbol but outlawing it seems to be going a bit too far to me. I do have a serious problem with public institutions like state governments using it, but I wouldn't go as far as to prohibit private citizens from owning/displaying it on private property.

But we live in America. I would personally never fly one but I love my freedom of speech/expression and would never infringe on someone elses, regardless of how ignorant it may seem to me. Private companies have every right to outlaw the flag, just as they have the right to deny someone showing a swastika-they don't want people associating the company with those set of beliefs.

Do you think it should be flown in on government property?

I don't like what the flag stands for or that people can be so ignorant as to fly it in the name of pride and heritage, but I also think it's their right to fly whatever flag they want. As far as i'm concerned it just makes it easier for me to know who to stay away from.

I want to note here that I also think government at any level has no business flying this flag because it becomes an issue of the government speech. If my neighbor wants to fly it, fine whatever. If my mayor wants to fly it, now I have a problem with it.

I live in the most granola part of the northwest. I seriously couldn't give less of a shit about it.

I'm just outside of a pretty crunchy town in the granola belt and I like the use of the confederate flag to make it easier for me to identify assholes

I live in northern Illinois and spend a great deal of time in Wisconsin as well. I want to tell these people that just because you're white trash doesn't mean you have southern heritage.

I know this may not seem serious, but I'm disappointed that you can't get a General Lee replica now without everybody thinking you're a horrible racist. Not everybody's seen Dukes, after all... I mean, that's such an awesome car.

I'm with ya. The General Lee was a pretty awesome car. I'd love to own one if I could.

The Nazi flag is also part of the German history. People in Germany were able to understand that it is not the best part of their heritage...
